SEE NAPLES AND DIE...almost

Advantages: Convenient for Pompeii
Disadvantages: AC? What AC? Room was like an oven.

We were planning to visit Pompeii but finding a decent hotel close by was as easy as excavating these ancient ruins with a teaspoon. So Naples it was. The Holiday Inn looked perfect for our needs - on the edge of the city towards Pompei and easy access from the autostrade. When I say easy access, I mean 'in theory'...on a map...in my wildest dreams etc. The Holiday Inn is situated in a modern development of high-rise offices and commercial properties called Centro Direzionale directly connected to a link road from the A1 autostrade. (?Julius Caesar in Egypt?; also known simply as ?Giulio Cesare?), with libretto by Nicola Francesco Haym, after Giacomo Grancesco Bussani?s work of the same name. The sheer length of the piece, with its typically Baroque musical da capo repeats of many verses can easily render this work into a completely boring and tedious affair. However, as you will see for yourself, ?boring? and ?tedious? will hardly apply to this particular staging as conceived by David McVicar and friends. Mr McVicar had the rare privilege of hand-picking his entire cast, and the wisdom of his choices shows clearly in ...

Hotel La Pace - peace in an area famous for war

Advantages: Position, clean, secure parking
Disadvantages: Old fashioned

beaches within an hour's drive and some very pretty/towns villages on the way. The hotel is near the main Rome-Naples highway (non-motorway). Overall, I would describe La Pace as adequate - certainly not the best hotel for the money, but nowhere near the worst! ...
