In September 04 I planned a weekend away at DisneylandResortParis. I was basically looking for the best deal available and found the Hotel Cheyenne to be the cheapest 'on site' hotel at the time.
If you travel slightly out of season, which is basically late September to April (except for school holidays and Christmas) you will find the price reduces dramatically!
A room for 2 people including breakfast (continental) for 2 nights and entry to the Disney Parks cost about £129 per person. Travel is not included.
THE HOTEL:
The Cheyenne is situated approx 10 minutes walk or 3 minute drive (via free courtesy bus)
from the Parks.
The hotel is designed in 'Wild West' style. It is not actually a hotel in the traditional sense, where you have 1 big building housing all the rooms. There are several separate buildings, laid out as in an old west town and each building is painted in a bright colour with a wild west sounding name such as 'Sheriff's Office' or 'Soaring Eagle Boarding House' (where I stayed).
The reception, including dining area/bar and shop are also in a separate building which is the first one you come to upon leaving the bus (this drops you right to the door).
THE ROOMS:
The room I stayed in contained 1 double bed and a set of bunk beds, an en suite bathroom, tv (showing Disney Channels), heater and ceiling fan. There is also a boot-shaped lamp which is supposed to add to the cowboy theme.
In the bathroom you are provided with towels and Disney soap (basically soap in a Mickey Mouse box). The towels and soap were replaced daily and the room was well cleaned.
I stayed in the bunk bed (one night in the top, one in the bottom cos I am a kid at heart) and found them pretty comfortable.
ACTIVITIES:
There is an open area in the centre of 'town' containing a stage and a barbecue as well as a stand where you can rent strange looking contraptions which are like little carriages you can pedal around the town. I didnt get one but I think they were about 4 Euros.
As it was out of season there was no entertainment, though in summer they do have shows and BBQs.
At certain times of day Disney characters visit the hotel and you can have your picture taken with them. While I was there the only characters that visited were Goofy and Woody fro Toy Story.
SERVICE:
Upon arriving we had to queue at reception then hand over out details, we were then given our passes to enter the park and asked to select a time we wished to have breakfast (they are staggered to accommodate the number of guests).
The only ones left were 7-7.30 am and 7.30 -8am so we went for the later one.
We shouldnt really have bothered as the basic continental breakfast (cereal, yoghurt, fruit) was not particularly appetising and certainly not enough to fill anyone up for an action packed day at Disneyland! You can purchase a cooked breakfast separately but we chose not to as the prices were quite steep! It was about 10 Euros a head for the cooked breakfast.
All in all the staff were helpful enough. We didnt have much call to ask for help but there was one woman there who seemed to be having some family crisis and was trying to reach her husband in Italy. The staff were very helpful to her, making phone calls for her etc.
GETTING TO THE PARK:
When you stay at a Disney Hotel you can use the 'Pink Elephant' courtesy bus services to and from the park. Each bus goes to a specific hotel (or sometimes 2) so just look out for the one with your hotel's name on the front.
The bus stop to the Disney Parks is situated about 50m from the reception and buses arrive approx every 10-15 minutes. Even though it was out of season there were still a lot of families and the buses became very crowded (they are the double sized ones)so we decided to walk after the first time.
The walk is pretty straight forward, you just walk straight down the road fro the hotel then turn right and straight down again to the Parks. You walk past some of the other Disney Hotels such as Newport Beach (which looked nice and I would consider for a longer stay).
MY OPINION:
All in all i would say the Hotel Cheyenne is good if you are on a budget and don't intend to spend too much time in the hotel (though as I said there is entertainment in high season).
I have heard however, that some of the off site hotels are a lot cheaper (such as the Movenpick and Holiday Inn) and there is still a bus service which takes only slightly longer.
So if you do want a hotel with a theme then this is probably the best option, though if you simply want a base to explore then I would suggest trying one of the non-Disney hotels.
