residential community, 20 miles outside the bustle of New York City. For more than a century, this renowned hotel has offered prestigious weekend respite for city dwellers. John F Kennedy International Airport (15 miles) and LaGuardia International Airport (17 miles) are a convenient distance from the property. The lobby welcomes with a royal atmosphere of gleaming marble floors and columns beneath crystal chandeliers. Attentive bellmen, concierge and front desk staff readily assist arriving guests. Manicured lawns surround the property, beckoning the opportunity of a moonlit stroll. The Garden City Hotel both entertains and accommodates, hosting renowned restaurants and vibrant social scenes. The Polo Restaurant offers a traditionally elegant approach to fine dining, offering superior delicacies and excellent service. The Rein Bar and Bistro presents a modern, splashy sense of sophistication with leather club chairs and plasma televisions. Departing from refinement, the hotel's Posh Ultra Lounge ventures boldly into chic, dazzling senses via a cocktail of sound and neon light. Advantages: Luxury, comfort, and being treated like royalty - plus wonderful food. Disadvantages: Makes other hotels seem ordinary
A November holiday is not everyone's ideal - nor was it ours, but 'needs must.'... and it was our 30th wedding anniversary !
Since Easyjet were starting their Belfast to Amsterdam journey, it was decided that a break for a few days in Amsterdam was a possibility.... though for some reason colleagues in hospital and church kept teasing us like mad about coffee shops and red lights for some reason !!!??
1 LOCATION :
The GardenHotel is part of the Bildeberg group, and this particular hotel is located in the Museum area of Amsterdam.
Basically that meant it was a pleasant walk in the crisp November air to get to the Van Gogh museum, and then a bit longer walk into the centre of the city.
There are the legendary trams and the service is so brilliant, we used them a fair bit too. O for public transport in UK like ...
Advantages: Superb Central Location Disadvantages: Strict on Room Checkout Times
street, it is an excellent location to relax over a good breakfast whilst watching the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam. If you just fancy a snack, a few doors down from the hotel is 'Pizza M Slice' serving the best (yep you've guessed it) pizza in the city. A must try.
If you are travelling to Amsterdam by car (not recommended) the hotel has arranged a 15% discount off parking fees at a car park a few minutes away. Parking is very expensive in the city, and as the public transport is excellent and the majority of attractions are close by, a car really is not needed.
For those of a sporty nature there is a modern fitness centre 20 meters from the hotel, where, in cooperation with the fitness centre, there is a discount for guests.
All in all, the Hotel Delta is an ideal choice for the budget-minded traveler, very reasonable rates ...
Advantages: Wodnerful Staff, Clean, Classy, Good Location - Everything Disadvantages: I have not a bad word to say about them!
After a very unfortunate start to our city break to Amsterdam my friend and I arrived at this hotel. I want to tell you all the shortened version of what actually happened...
Our Tour Operator booked us into the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Den Haag instead of the hotel in Schiphol [where the airport is]. Not wanting to miss out on the sights of Amsterdam, and not wanting to travel 60km each way between the sights and the hotel we made our way to Amsterdam. After about 300EUR in transport, conmen taxi drivers, and "Sorry we're full, good luck!" from ever hotelier we were directed to the GardenHotel by their sister hotel Jan Luyken.
We arrived to see a hotel in a quiet area next to a canal with ducks and boats...absolutely gorgeous area! Lovely houses, lots of plants and trees and of course the ducks and geese! The hotel had a red ...
