My partner and I visited Girona in May 2007. We had pre booked the Ciutat de Girona but we weren't at all sure of what to expect. We travelled by bus from the airport to Girona bus station, (approx. 20minutes), and from there we took a taxi to the hotel which was about a 5minutes drive. There ... Read review

The hotel has a resaurant which serves excellent food (so I heard) but we did not eat there at night so I couldn't speak from personal experience. Breakfast in the hotel was superb. There was a choice of cooked and continental style and it included tortillas which was delicious and highly recommended. One thing I'll say is that we did not discover the cooked breakfast until the 2nd day but it is there!

Our first impression of the hotel was that it was spotless and stylish, couldn't have been more central as it was right in the heart of the old town. The reception area was modern, bright and comfortable though minimalistic. The free mini bar and welcome drink ( I believe it was a local wine) with some biscuits were much appreciated. A lift took us up to our floor. The corridor was quiet, and had a lush feel to it. Paintings on the large wall spaces.
All of the 44 rooms, which are much of a sameness are tastefully decorated. Two red paintings, bedspread and rugs complemented the otherwise coldness of the white walls while behind the bed was an attractive arrangement of twigs with white stones. The bed itself comprised of two beds put together but this did not spoil the comfort as the mattresses were very comfortable. The lighting was good and you could create different effects. The flooring looked like tiles but was warm to walk on. The room also had a comfortable sofa and two chairs. The space in the wardrobe/shelf unit was adequate for a few nights break. There was a trouser press and a hairdryer that I can remember. Robes and slippers are also provided. Hi Tech and internet access too.
The bathroom was very modern, in fact so modern that I couldn't work out how to use the sink! It sloped, and did not look like any other sink I'd seen before. Be warned...DO NOT PUT THE TAPS FULL ON UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING!!! I ended up splashing the pristine mirror and myself. It was funny at the time. There was no separate shower but the shower/bath was a good size and the water was piping hot. The toilet room also had a bidet in it.
There is a 24hour concierge service and the reception staff were very helpful and spoke good English which was great for us as neither of us speak Spanish. They will advise on sights, travel and they also have good local knowledge. We were given helpful information on what to see in Girona and we were also suplied with maps which helped us find our way around

Not much of a view but that didn't matter to us as we spent most of the time outdoors.
The location is perfect, with the river, cathedral and a wonderful square within a few minute's walk.Lots of very good shops on the doorstep and beyond and there are also quite a few specialist ones.
This was one of the nicest hotels that I've stayed in and would certainly recommend it to others. My only gripe is that the tv programmes are mainly in Spanish. Only the sport and world news were in English.
The cost? Well, the room came to around £89 per night(breakfast included) but after tax was added it came to nearer £100. I gladly paid this for the convenience and comfort.
