The Towers Hotel, Ilfracombe

Advantages: Great views, lovely (and very clean) building, excellent hosts, close to town centre
Disadvantages: None

The North Devon coast is, for me, one of the most fantastic places in the UK. There are lots of activities to do in the area including surfing, hiking, cycling, horse-riding, scuba diving, wildlife-watching, fishing, and exploring. My wife and I have just enjoyed a stay at the Towers Hotel in Ilfracombe, which is an ideal location for visiting north Devon. The hotel is a spectacular Victorian-style building with the slightly-over-the-top architecture which could only work in a building of this era. The interior is kept in-style with the overall building and is exceptionally clean and tidy. Even the Victorian features such as the high ceilings, covings and high skirting boards were in clean, good condition which must take a lot of work by the owners. There is ample car-parking for all guests, and also a small bar and lounge area ...

Off to The Tower

Advantages: The views and location. Relaxing and comfortable. Friendly and Efficient Staff.
Disadvantages: Perhaps a little expensive.

~~My Quest~~ Where to stay for our overnight trip to London to see the First Emperor: China's Terracotta Army Exhibition? We had decided on the trip as a special treat for my 88 year old arthritic father. The first consideration was then that the hotel had to be wheelchair assessable. Secondly we wanted a good central location with opportunity for quick and easy public transportation to the British Museum. And last but not least we wanted a hotel that was a little bit special, a tad luxurious with wonderful views but one that was not too prohibitive price wise! A tall order? Surfing the net, I came across The Tower Hotel. My quest was complete. ~~Location, Location, Location~~ The Tower Hotel is situated right on the edge of the River Thames nestled in amongst the recently renovated St Katherine Dock area. The docks are host ...

Comfortable but bring your own dinner!

Advantages: Large and comfortable room, quite good breakfast
Disadvantages: Very poor Reception, dull dinner, boring bar

The ancient city of Varanasi is located on the banks of the River Ganges is north eastern India. Also known as Benaras, it is over 3000 years old, one of the oldest continually inhanbited cities in the world. It is also one of the holiest sites for Hindus as it is believed that Varanasi was the home to the God, Krishna. The River Ganges, which flows through the city, is believed to have the power to wash away all sin and it is said that those who pass away and are cremated here will be able to break the cycle of birth and rebirth. Varanasi is also one of the four major pilgrimage sites for Buddhists, as the suburb of Sarnath is said to be the place where Buddha gave his first sermon about the principles of Buddhism. Attracting millions of pilgrims every year, it is also draws over a million international tourists every year ...
