Athenaeum Luxury at the InterContinental

Advantages: Helpful staff, lovely bedrooms, mini-bus service into the centre
Disadvantages: Not much in the local area, expensive, facilities not the best

I?ve had the pleasure of staying here on two occasions recently, both two night stays, both for work purposes so of course I wasn't paying for the room! First impressions: The lobby is very wide and atrium style. As you walk across the marble floor there is a weird blue statue of a man and on your right escalators going downstairs. There are also a vast number of chairs and tables. To the left is the spa and a couple of boutique type stores. It does look more like the foyer of a prestigious office tower rather than a hotel though. It's a very large hotel with over five hundred guest bedrooms over nine floors. Checking In: On both occasions it was very easy to check in and out again, the receptionists were all efficient, helpful and spoke excellent English. Hotel Continental Barcelona well worth a visit

Advantages: Central, good rooms and service
Disadvantages: None really

Hotel Continental is located on the ramblas. See if you can get a room that has a balcony facing on the ramblas. The ramblas comes alive from around 6/7pm at night and is a fantastic site to see. The hotel itself is a really nice hotel. The rooms are of a generous size and are decorated in a homely style. The beds were comfortable, the room was very clean and the patio doors shut out the sound of the ramblas very well. It is a great base for you to discover Barcelona which is a beautiful city with much to see and do. It is situated perfectly for shopping, for the bus tours, you must do this, for the beach at the end of the ramblas and the port itself. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is also located very near to the train station so you are able to get to and from the airport via train should you wish to ...

IFA Continental, Playa Des Ingles

Advantages: Execellent position next to bus station and close to shops, just far enough away from night life to be quiet.
Disadvantages: The food is excellent so you may over eat ! Not very close to beach.

the mountains of which a visit is a must. The beach however is not at this end of the resort so aways to go to get to the sandy part. it's not what we went for so no bother to us, it is easy to walk to as the promanade runs right along to Maspolamas and the sand dunes but its a long walk. there are plenty of Taxi's and hire cars around. The Kumba centre is far enough away not to be a nuisance but near enough to walk to and taxi back with shopping. We like to go to Gran Canaria in March as it's usally awlful here but very warm without being to hot over there. The flight takes just under four hours so pick a good airline with entertainment as this can be a long trip for the children. We now have a timeshare at another resort or we would have gone again to The Continental, happy memories of this hotel and you can't miss it as it's pale pink ...
