*Arrival & check in*
It took us two hours to arrive at the hotel from our starting location. En route we took in many beautiful views of the county of Dalecarlia or Dalarna as it is also named. For around twenty minutes on our approach to the hotel we were following the shores of Lake Siljan which was a spectacular sight in itself. The hotel stood very splendid on top of a hill with vast views across Siljan, this was certainly a perfect spot for the hotel. The hotel looked appealing and grand in typical Dalarna red wooden style and we couldn't wait to enter!

We had the pleasure of being invited to my husband's best friends traditional Swedish wedding in Hjortnas, Sweden which was to take place on the shores of Lake Siljan which is the seventh largest lake in Sweden. As Hjortnas is a small village in the countryside, there was little room for all of the guests to stay with the family, we therefore took the recommendation of the groom and booked this charming four star hotel for two nights last August.
We soon arrived at Tällberg which is a little picturesque village located in the heart of Sweden. It is situated on the shore of Lake Siljan, in the northern part of Leksand, a municipality in the county of Dalecarlia. All the houses and buildings are made of wood, such as timber or log and are typical of the county. We soon found the turning to the hotel and entered its long and winding road up to the parking area at the front of the hotel. The hotel stood very splendid on top of a hill with vast views across Siljan, this was certainly a perfect spot for the hotel. The hotel looked appealing and grand in typical Dalarna red wooden style and we couldn't wait to enter! On entering the building, the lobby and reception area was large with stone floors, well decorated and comfortable seating. There was an immediate feeling of comfort and relaxation. The receptionist was very friendly and happy to accommodate us. We were given our room key & off we went to check it out.
*room*
We found our room to be a very good size. We had a large double bed with a sofa & table, TV, dressing table and complimentary water & fruit. The bathroom was a good size offering good quality complimentary toiletries. The best thing about our room was the large window that overlooked Siljan, this was superb. The décor was slightly outdated but was in good condition and the bed and furnishings were comfortable with ample pillows and blankets for comfort. I thought that the room was slightly over priced for what was on offer but I imagine we paid a lot towards that view and it was clean plus we wouldn't be spending much time in here anyway.
*The hotel*
Breakfast-
Breakfast was buffet style and served in the large dining room which was just up the grand steps from reception. There was a wide choice of food available from chipolatas, bacon, and scrambled egg to cold meats and cheeses, delicious fresh fruit, cereals, freshly baked bread & a selection of freshly squeezed juices and hot drinks. The breakfast was lovely and I over indulged on both mornings!
Restaurant & bar -
The restaurant was a lovely candle lit place that sadly we did not have chance to sample due to the fact that we had dinner with the family on the evening of arrival and the next day was obviously the wedding dinner, however, we did have a sneaky peek on our way to the bar area. The restaurant is situated in the same area as the breakfast dining room but by night it is transformed into a candle lit paradise. The large windows span the whole side of the restaurant enabling those who choose not to take dinner on the terrace to be able to enjoy the splendid views of Siljan whilst consuming dinner. The menu that we looked at was a la carte with a number of options and a very extensive wine list. We really wish that we would have had more time to sample the delights of this food.
There are two different bars within the Dalecarlia. The bar which was next to the restaurant was very cosmopolitan and classically decorated yet very modern and Swedish in design. The drink selection was good, however slightly over price as alcohol tends to be in Sweden. The one good point about the bar was it's bar snacks. Shortly after our check in on the Friday, we went to the bar & had sandwiches which arrived quickly, were tasty & for a bar snack were quite reasonably priced at a conversion of roughly £6.
The other bar was slightly more traditional and cosy and was the piano bar. This did as it says in the description, has live piano music set in a relaxing environment. This was a very nice touch indeed.
The hotel also has a gift shop which is located next to reception and sells such things as post cards and obviously the locally made Darla horse which is a Swedish iconic figure in the nature of a red wooden horse.
There is also a spa available with a number of treatments for those visitors who have a little more time to spare. There appeared to be a vast amount of treatments available and the prices appeared pretty reasonable too.
*Location*
The location of Darlana is central Sweden. From Stockholm, the journey by train is roughly three hours with a distance of 160 miles. Many visitors, especially Swedes spend time around Siljan as part of their holiday and it is a very beautiful area.
*Price & value for money*
We paid £120 per night for our room which included breakfast. I feel for the hotel and its location, this was a good price although it would have been nice to feel that the rooms were a little more luxurious for this price. This was a beautiful hotel in a very beautiful part of Sweden which I would recommend for a relaxing break away.
