A few years ago we went to Rome in the summer and we stayed at the Hotel Daniela. A hotel close to the Coliseum and the Termini station, according to their website.

Location of the hotel

The website indicated that Daniela Hotel is near the Termini Station and the Coliseum. In my experience it was 15 minutes walking to the Termini station and about 20 minutes walking towards the Coliseum. So I didn’t think it was really near but at the same time it wasn’t that far either. Also on the website is stated that the subway station is near and this is about a 10 minute walk. It doesn’t sound like that’s far but remember how hot it gets in Rome in the summer and then a 10 minute walk is quite far especially since you already walk a lot when visiting Rome. The hotel is located at a quite street and that’s really good and nearby are a few great restaurants.
Reception

The reception looked fine. It was tastefully decorated, with a few couches and it had a really welcoming feeling. There were flyers available with information about the things to do in Rome. Also you could get a free map of Rome. At the reception you could possibly rent a safe. If you left the hotel you had to leave your key behind but since there’s 24 hour reception that wasn’t any problem.

Rooms

We were on a double room with a nice double bed. The room was on the ground floor and there was not really much to see through the window because there were a few trees. Besides a bed there was a television, a mini bar. There was also a desk and there was a fairly large closet. The air conditioning was very nice, especially as the temperatures increase to over forty degrees. Also nice was that you could make it completely dark in the room with the shutters before the window. The bathroom had a shower, a sink and a toilet. The shower was fine but you needed to hold the showerhead while having a shower. Every day there were new clean towels in the bathroom.
Rooftop terrace

Daniela hotel has a rooftop terrace. I already seen on the site of the hotel and it sounded very promising. It was however disappointing. There was indeed a terrace but it was not even lit. However, there were few seats and you had a nice view. I expected a little bit more and that you could have a drink and just meet some people but since it was not even lit, there was no point of being there.

Breakfast

During our stay at Hotel Daniela breakfast was included. The breakfast room looked great and spacious. The selection of the breakfast was ok but not really extensive. You had sandwiches, eggs, fruit, yoghurt, coffee tea and a few other things. It all tasted really nice but just expected a little bit bigger selection.
Staff

The staff at Hotel Daniela was very friendly. Because the reception was open 24 hours a day, there were always several people during the day. They were all very nice and friendly. They were patient when you asked them questions and their English was just fine. Also the staff at the breakfast room was really polite and fast with cleaning the table and with the coffee. I always find it so important that the staff is friendly but if not it can really ruin the holiday feeling.

Prices

For one night in a hotel room, you pay between 50 and 60 euro’s (local currency) per night. This is however dependent on the season you go to the hotel. During the weekend it was also slightly more expensive. Yet it was a good price, especially compared to the prices in the rest of Rome. Payment was upon arrival and was not with checking out, as with most hotels is the case. It went wrong with The prices of drinks in the mini bar were very doable. For a can of cola or beer you pay two euro’s, while on a terrace in Rome, often quite a big more.
Conclusion

I really enjoyed my stay in Rome thanks to this hotel. The hotel is perfect for people who want to get a good night sleep since you have no busy street but also the room and bed are very comfortable. It certainly helped that the staff was also very friendly and helpful with questions about directions and if they knew any good places to eat. I was a bit disappointed with the whole roof terrace and beforehand it could picture myself sitting there with a nice drink after a busy day of walking. I think they can do so much more with it and at least lit it up. Nobody likes to sit in the dark at night! Also you didn’t really have any nice bars around the hotel so if you wanted to have a drink you needed to walk for like 15 minutes. Another slightly disappointment was the selection at the breakfast since I always find the breakfast very important. I love a big breakfast and while the quality was really good I just expected abit more.
