After arriving in Amsterdam by air we hailed down a taxi and provided the driver with the address to this hotel who then went on to type it into his sat nav so we all sat back and awaited transportator to our home for the next 5 days.
Anyway after 10 minutes of driving we noticed the driver was having some problems trying to find the hotel location on the main street so we all peered out the window in order to help assist the driver to find it. 10 minutes later and 50 euro's lighter we arrived at what seemed to be a restaurant and we all assumed there must be another door to the hotel anyway after moaning and arguing for 5 minutes outside the front one of us decided to go in and investigate. So he came back to explain that you walk in through the restuarant and into the back to the reception desk placed next to the lift. So after hauling our luggage through the restaurant ensuring we don't knock anybodys table or drinks we arrived at the reception to a young Dutch male who was so helpfull over the 5 days deserved a medal!!
Anyway after arranging who was in which room etc .. we all went up the stairs to find the room which matched the key and me being maybe the unlucky one had the key to what looked like a cleaners cupboard renovated into a twin room?? Anyway having travelled for most of the day didn't argue and got my head down. The next morning I woke up with a stiff neck as the pillow was thinner than a piece of A4 paper and the matress half on half off the bed. Anyway after seeing the room it was time to investigate what the food was going to be like so we all sat down to a continental breakfast consisting of bread rolls and a selection of cheese & hams and other assortments of food. I must admit considering the rooms wasn't the best I didn't expect much to the food but I was pleasently suprising after eating my 3rd roll ha!
So on that note the day turned out to be a little bit brighter as it was time to order a main meal so we all sat down for a meal together and I must say it was one of the nicest steak & chips this side of the Channel I must admit its one thing .. yes one thing which I would go back there for! Otherwise I'd choose a different hotel but eat there.
Anyway after sampling their breakfast & main meals for 5 days the trip didn't seem so bad as we all decided to get so intoxicated that the sleeping arrangements weren't that bad as it didn't affect us as much as we all had hangovers to worry about.
The staff done their absolute upmost to ensure we had a happy stay and I must thank them for that but if it wasn't for tasty food, a good enviroment and my mates I don't think I could have got through that alone. So if your considering backpacking and this hotel is on your iitinerary I suggest you travel in a different direction. All in all it was a good trip and yes I suppose the hotel was good value for money when it comes to food and drink but the hotel rooms could have been a bit bigger and the stay a bit more comfortable.
Also I forgot to mention the location of the hotel which is in the central area of Amsterdam surrounded by shops & bars and a 5 minute walk to the Red Light District so I was told???
Also there are tram stops on the main streets surrounding the Hotel so travelling about the City wouldn't be a problem.
I give the food & drink 5* I give the service 5* Hotel rooms 2*
Advantages: Location is excellent Disadvantages: Small hotel, small rooms
I stayed in this hotel at the beginning of August for 1 night only.
I found it quite difficult to find a hotel in Amsterdam in the city centre for a reasonable amount of money.
We paid 120 euros for 1 room for 1 night. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from central station, so the location is excellent. The rooms are basic, with a comfortable double bed (a double bed not 2 singles - which is unusual), wardrobe, television and a bathroom with shower. ... ...friends also stayed at this hotel and their room was slightly nicer than ours, they also had a small 2 seater sofa in their room, whereas our room was smaller and did not have this.
You have to walk through a restaurant to get to the hotel, which I found quite strange at first, but all the hotels on that road are the same.
Breakfast provided was adequate, nothing special but there was nothing wrong with it either.
I would recommend this hotel ...

The hotel is located only a three-minute walk from the central station, two minutes from the Dam, four minutes from the Red Light district, two minutes from the main shopping street and one minute from the stock exchange. Many famous museums are located in the area nearby and are reachable within five minutes by tram or bus.
