After arriving in Paris we found our Hotel to be rather lacking. Honestly it was terrible and when we wanted to leave the owner chased us into the street screaming obscenities en francais. It was like a scene in a Woody Allen Film - 2 Americans and their Frenchy cousin running down the streets of the Marais pulling suitcases and crying from laughter, all while returning the insults.
Thus we arrived at Hotel du Marais out of breath and late at night. Lucky for us at the height of tourist season they had ONE cancellation. We took it! The room was on the 4th floor and we soon discovered that one of us or a suitcase could fit in the elevator. So one of us raced up the stairs and the other remained in the lobby ferrying the luggage into the lift.
We dropped the bags into the smallest hotel room in Paris and headed back down stairs for a very late dinner recommendation. The reception desk happily sent us down to Le Machon - do dine there! After feasting we returned to our tiny room and laughed about how when brushing ones teeth your derrière was placed in the shower. We watched bad French TV and opened our street facing windows. There we sat in the sills drinking the last of the wine from the restaurant and enjoying our luck at having scored the last room in the Marais.
A very enjoyable stay for sure! Perfect location, great staff and bathrooms in every room!
