If I had one word to say about this hotel it would be, brilliant, although i do have a lot more words to describe this hotel.
I have been to the Eiger Hotel twice in the last two years, and each time i have gone the service and hospitality has been wonderful! The waiters and the receptionists, every single worker is caring and helps you along your holiday.
The first time i came, we had a room facing the Eiger, the room was set out perfect and they helped us book our ski's, tell us where to get our passes onto the slopes. After looking around Grindelwald we sat down for dinner to only find the seven course meal we were about to go through. Me and my brother thought it was heaven! The food made to perfection, also quick service. For the first few days we couldnt eat it all, but after being on the ski slopes for the whole day we were ready for our meal.
As it was my families first visit to the hotel they let us meet other people who were staying in the hotel that had been going for years. They told us all their stories about the hotel, and while we were chatting they gave us food and drink. Another great idea they have is when you have been out and about walking or skiing and you come back tired and hot, they have cakes and drinks which allows you to meet up with other families and also to just relax.
There is a Gym, which has treadmills and weights and loads more excerise machines that i don't know the name for. There is also a ski area were you can put your boots and skis for the night so that you dont have to carry them other to you room. There are bars and restaurants and outside eat areas. The only problem is that there is no pool and you have to go to the local pool ( which they gove you a card to allow you in) to swim and i wouldn't say the hospitality was that nice down at the local pool as you had the feeling that they thought of you as "tourist scum" ( Although we didn't have that much time to go down to the pool that much). Down at the bar they had a large screen which should most of the live sports, with a friendly atmosphere.
On the second time we went down to the Eiger Hotel everything was still perfect. This time we got a room at the back of the hotel , but still it was looking up at the Eiger. I had a quick look through the guest book and everybody loved it! Again they guided us through getting our skis and passes. Going through the village again nothing much had changed. A few more hotels had appeared but nothing more. Still the same old shops.
The room gave small little tokens like giving you a bottle wine on the first day you come and another bottle of some kind of fruit juice. Also at around 7-8pm a lady would come round to the rooms giving you chocolate which something me and brother wait for when we had just come back from dinner. The dinner was still huge and perfect with a few meals that were the same as the last time we had come to the hotel but we didn't mind. We had now found shortcuts to getting to different areas, as we had never really been to the back of the hotel before. We also found out they allocate the seating area to were you room is, so before when we were at the front of the hotel we were at the front of the dinner area but now that we were at the back of the hotel we were at the back of the dinner area (surprising hey?). They have also decorated the hotel walls with paintings and drawing, with old men singing to dogs and beautiful views of the mountains. IN the dinner area they have made a theme of the old lodges, were in the back middle they had a lodge with wood and the floor had been made out of wood, which gave a good atmosphere o the area.
About Grindelwald and local area
Grindelwald has lots of shops selling all sorts of penknives, and other different gadgets for the mountain. There is also a very useful train station, that can take you to to the slopes or take you to Interlaken. The passes to the slopes include the trains and bus, but it depends on which pass you get to which buses and trains your allowed on
In Grindelwald, there are many different hotels which have night clubs and other night activities so if that is you thing then there is something for you. There are also many little paths to take you around the area, allowing you to see the mountains, flowers and the wildlife, walk to different villages or if you want to do something more exciting theres special walks, with a guide taking you up the mountains, going through the snow and forests.
In the middle of town there is leisure center where there is a ice rink. swimming pool and tourist information( where you can buy your passes) In the ice rink you can watch people play ice hokey or go in and ice skate. Outside the leisure Center there is a small kiddies area if you are with the kids.
Skiing
We went to Grindelwald to ski and there is a lot of skiing to do! With three different mountains, you can find anything for anyone. Although I'd say to try and gop skiing before Easter as everything starts to melt and places start to close and its much harder to ski and access the areas.
Overall
I would highly recommend as it gives you so much opportunity to relax and enjoy the area
