People complaining about the noise of guests not going to bed until 2 am, people being drunk, disco's, packed out swimming pool, noisy towns, Come on, This is Spain on the Costa's at the Height of Summer, If your not expecting it to be like this, then you've been badly misled.
Went this Hotel last year in June, with a coach tour operator, we had never booked an holiday in this manner before, and I was a bit hesitant considering the holiday was over £1.000 cheaper than the previous years holiday for a similar hotel,
But you'll be glad to know my fears were totally unfounded, after along and tiring, but very enjoyable coach trip, we arrived at our Hotel, a very nice place by any means, Modern, fresh and clean,
The rooms, although quite basic, were clean, simple modern design, with colour sky TV, nicely decorated and comfortable and air-conditioning comes as standard, our party consisted of 2 adults, 2 children, and our 79 year old Nana who by the enjoyed the trip as much as anyone.
We had 2 rooms, one twin bedded and sofa bed, and the other twin bedded, my son being the eldest always stay with his Nan, while our Daughter only in her early teens opts for Mum and Dad, comfortable good nights sleep was enjoyed by all.
There are a variety of options available; we opted for the half board with free unlimited drinks, including Tea/ Coffee and Ice creams for the kids,
But you can book B&B, Half Board, Full Board and All Inclusive, We have been All Inclusive Before and decided the Half Board was better for us, as this allowed more daytime freedom, and a greater choice of what to eat and where.
We did come across a few complaining moaners, but to be honest, I cannot understand them, If you book a cheap holiday, in the summer season at an all Inclusive free drinks Hotel on the Spanish Costa Brava, catering for the average Joe Brit, What are you expecting? People complaining about the noise of guests not going to bed until 2 am, people being drunk, disco's, packed out swimming pool, noisy towns, Come on, This is Spain on the Costa's at the Height of Summer, If your not expecting it to be like this, then you've been badly misled.
The staff overall were very friendly and helpful, although the bar staff are a bit stand offish until they get to know you, my husband is an intimidating looking fella at the best of times, but once they learn that your not a lager lout, and not going to hurl abuse at them, because you haven't been served within 10 seconds, they start to relax, in fact because we gave them respect, they would go out of their way to serve us ASAP.
Breakfast is quite basic, a serve yourself continental style meal, toast and boiled eggs, jams, croissants, cheeses, hams etc: but plenty to eat and you could make up a decent meal. Tea/Coffee readily available.
Evening meals, again serve yourself, plenty of meats on offer, salad, CHIPS, burgers, hotdogs, also a selection of International cuisine, but if it aint got chips, the kids and hubby aren't interested anyway, it wouldn't make a Cordon Blu cook book, but still a good choice, and nicely cooked and presented.
Entertainment, isn't West End Cabaret, more of your, bingo, singalongs, and staff trying their best at a variety of acts, but still very entertaining, even if your just laughing at how bad they are,
Very nice reception area and salon well presented, with TV lounge, and billiards area, A large swimming pool, with adult and children's area, and of course the usual array of sun beds (oh yeh) they seem to come fitted with there own towels attached to them, if you read the labels on the towels, most will say, 'Made in Germany'.
There is also a relaxing Jacuzzi.
There is two small bars within the pool area, both serve small snacks as well, very convenient in the blazing sun, just a small struggle of the sun bed to the bar and back.
The Beach isn't far away if you fancy a change, just around the corner from the Hotel, easily reached with a ten minute stroll, nice sand and very clean.
Calella is a mixture of old and new, but the two do blend quite well, a vast array of shops, bars, café's, restaurants etc: and a very lively night life, and all pretty reasonably priced, catering mainly for the tourists, what else would you expect, cheap fags, cheap ale, and cheap perfume, this is the Spanish Costa's.
Overall view, If your looking for a quite relaxing holiday, far away from the madding crowds then book elsewhere, for fun, sun and sand then go ahead and book. Enjoy your holiday whatever you decide.
Advantages: Medium sized not overcrowded comfortable hotel Disadvantages: none really
Thought i'd review this Hotel again, as there have been a few changes since last summer,
We recently returned to the Hotel Esplia, as we have been there a few times before and really enjoyed it
Allthough the Hotel has 198 rooms it still feels family freindly as would say a smaller hotel.
The rooms are quite spacious sleeping mainly up to 3 people comfortably.
Each room comes with:
bath/shower, wc,beeday, hair dryer and shaving point.
Large Built ... ...patio table and chairs.
The Hotel has six floor levels for guests all acsessable via there 2 lifts or stairs, each corridor also has cctv for your added security, and excellant emergency excape routes.
Smoking by Spanish law is not permitted in the Hotel or its rooms, please note all rooms are now fitted with very sensitive smoke detectors, and they are very strict about adherring to this new law so be warned.you can however smoke on your balcony, ...

Advantages: Night life, Food, Pool, Drinks. Disadvantages: None, lots of steps..
...Once arriving at the hotel we had to wait to be checked in for about an hour, but were given our unlimited drinks wrist bands and went for some food while we waited, leaving our luggage with reception.
When checked into our rooms we found them clean with resonable decor and sky television with at least one english channel. The balconys had resonable views of the pool however with our party being large they split us up around the hotel.
The nightlife ... ...according to my friends.
The hotel is brilliant, not far from anything with delicious food and nice staff (untill the night when there was a man who was a bit mean with our room keys), nice people tend to go to the hotel and the pool area was never too crowded.
I think this hotel is a must for young people going to have a good time. Old people can enjoy it too if they chill out a bit.
Lots of steps to the enterance, not suitable for people who ...

...ALL INCLUSIVE PROGRAM.
Although the hotel also offers B&B H/B and F/B. We had a tea-time flight from Liverpool and landed in good time at Gerona, only thing was there was only 1 person checking the passports and we did not get to our hotel until nearly midnight so we had missed our AI for that night.
When we arrived we thought the Hotel Esplai looked nice and clean the reception area was tidy and well presented and you could also see the bar area ... ...town.
Evening entertainment at the hotel was very poor and badly set up,there was a disco on one night and they didnt even lower the lights also no-one was dancing. On the plus side they did a quiz on the last night to which we won a wonderful bright yellow t-shirt with the hotel name on and also received a certificate (we enjoyed that as we had never won a quiz before).
The staff on the whole where pleasent and as helpful as they could be and ...

Advantages: Cheap, value for money and good if you hate flying Disadvantages: Lengthy journey, don't expect 4* luxury
on departure, less any cost for damages if applicable.
I have stayed in the Hotels Osiris and Esplai in Calella, and the Salou Pacific Apartments in Salou, all of which have proved satisfactory, given the low cost of the holiday - if you want 4* luxury, don't expect to get it for 2* prices!
The food in the Osiris is fine, my only gripe there is that the swimming pool is mainly in shade until about lunchtime, although the beach is only about 10 minutes walk away. To access the beach and shops from either of the Callella hotels mentioned you have to cross a busy dual carriageway, but there is a pedestrian pathway which runs underneath.
The Salou Pacific apartments are about 15-20 mins walk from the main Salou beach, downhill, but via a street full of shops, bars and restaurants! There are some good restaurants very close by and also a few ...
