Advantages: Fantastic location by the river Disadvantages: No lift
The Hotel Hansablick is a three star hotel based in a lovely 100-year old Berlin town house. It has 29 rooms over 4 floors, and was refurbished in 2005.
~~~ Location ~~~
The hotel is set in a quiet residential area right next to the River Spree. It is on the north west corner of the Tiergarten, and only a couple of tube stops to the main shops on Kurfurstendamm.
The nearest U-Bahn station is Hansaplatz (approx 4 minute walk) and the S-Bahn station Tiergarten is about a 2 minute walk. Tickets for public transport can be purchased at the reception, although I found it pretty easy to do this directly at the station, despite my limited German.
~~~ Reception ~~~
From the quiet street you enter the hotel through a large door (sometimes open, sometime you have to buzz for entry). This leads to the foot of two flights of stairs ...
I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights.
LOCATION:
The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal.
PRICE:
Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time ...
Advantages: Quiet, peaceful, copious banks and stamp shops Disadvantages: Not a throbbing metropolis, and pricey with it!
Taking the opportunity to travel to Liechtenstein as part of a few days holiday exploring Vorarlberg, Switzerland and Liechtenstein over the festive period, I chose to head to Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein ? a tiny principality that nestles among the Alps surrounded by Switzerland and Austria.
Getting there was no easy matter ? Vaduz may be Liechtenstein?s capital, but it boasts neither a train station nor an airport. Fortunately the Liechtenstein Bus service (www.lba.li) took me from Feldkirch in Vorarlberg, through assorted villages to Vaduz, the capital. A day pass for the buses costs EUR 3.20 or CHF 5.00 ? the Swiss Franc (CHF) being the currency in use in Liechtenstein although many shops also accept Euro. To get to Vaduz I had to change buses in Schaan ? with the country?s only railway station (Schaan-Vaduz) being a stone ...
