This hotel is officially ranked as four star, not two star, but I have to say my experience was closer to two star than four star.
First impressions were good with the reception staff being friendly and helpful but the room was a big let down. The door was difficult to open and close, and inside I found a small basic room with no mini bar, no shaving socket and, more seriously, no room safe. I was promised a king sized bed but got a not very comfortable single bed shoved up against the wall. At least the room was non-smoking and didn't smell. A small TV was provided with several satellite channels but BBC news was not included - the only English speaking channel was CNN. The room also had the disadvantage of being located opposite the hotel kitchen which meant I was subjected to noise from the staff first thing in the morning.
On the plus side, the room was well insulated from street noise and provided free internet access - there was also a computer on the first floor if you didn't bring your laptop.
The buffet breakfast was just adequate - not sumptious. If you came down late, it was likely some items would be missing, particularly the bacon and eggs. The waitresses were nice though.
The best thing that can be said about this hotel is its location. The old town, the market and local cafes were all within walking distance. And the staff were friendly enough.
In summary, I can not recommend this hotel from my personal experience. This hotel is a three star at best but they charge four star prices. However, it might be different for you. They seem to give preference to families and regular guests while the solo traveller is likely to get a rough deal.
But I would not want my experience to put anyone off from visiting Graz. The locals are friendly and polite and the general atmosphere in the town is nice with a large student population to liven things up. Graz is easy to get to with Ryanair flights leaving Stansted in the late morning and returning in the afternoon. Getting through Graz airport is a breeze with taxis readily available and you don't have to wait too long to catch a bus or train into town.
