We visited this hotel in February 2008 for a short break and for anyone visiting Iceland for the first time it is the perfect place to stay.
Firstly the hotel is located on the doorstep of the traditional, historical and prettiest part of Reykjavic which means that you can enjoy all the best that Reykjavic has to offer without having the stress of navigating around using taxis, cars or buses. You step out of the hotel into one of best areas for eating and shopping and this is a real bonus if you are less mobile and want to enjoy as much as possible without too much strain or if you want to see as much as possible during a short break.
Secondly the hotel has historic and traditional elements of its own. As it was being re-built a couple of years ago they discovered one of the oldest buildings ever built by man in Iceland. This has ...

Advantages: Lovely rooms Disadvantages: Dining is hit or miss
We booked three rooms for the 6th-9th of March 2008, and were generally satisfied. On entering the foyer we were disappointed to see so many people smoking (a conference) because we had thought it was a non-smoking hotel. However, our rooms were fresh-smelling and smoke-free, and apart from the cleaning staff smoking in a cupboard we encountered no more smoke. The foyer is beautifully tiled and open, with a garden at the rear.
The lift to the rooms is ricketty.
The rooms were lovely...spacious, well laid-out, spotlessly clean. The bathrooms, also sparkling clean, had showers instead of baths, but the water pressure was good and there was room to move about. A small cake of soap, and a phial each of shampoo and shower gel were provided. Bed linen fresh and crisp. Bed large and comfortable.
