Advantages: Good location, impressive new building Disadvantages: A bit of a walk from the train station
INTRODUCTION
Onwards on our tour of New Zealand, myself and Ms Larsbaby spent a few days in the capital, Wellington, travelling from Auckland via the Overlander train. Booking through Trailfinders, we chose the Copthorne Hotel as it seemed to be in a decent location.
COPTHORNE
The hotel is indeed in a good location on the edge of the Wellington harbour front, near to various bars on Courtenay Place and across the water from the exceptional national museum, Te Papa. A New World supermarket is close by, handy for basic provisions. It's maybe a 15 minute walk to the train station though, which may be a consideration. A cursory look at the building and reception leads you to the conclusion that it's very new due to its shiny, pristine appearance. Advantages: Lovely hotel with excellent service Disadvantages: none
We stayed in this hotel on our way back from Australia and it made a lovely end to our holiday. The hotel is part of the Marriott Group of hotels and is situated in a great location in Wanchai overlooking the harbour and right next to the Star Ferry making trips across to Kowloon very easy. Our room was a good size and had 2 very large single beds pushed close together with lovely ...

the town.
The next room up would be the Delux room these are exactly the same as the standard rooms except they also have a small seating area and a view over the harbour - the view alone is well worth the extra money!
You then have the Executive room which is the same as the the Delux just a little bigger, with the executive rooms you can choose between town view and harbourview.
Then there are the suites, there are junior suites, these are the rooms i have stayed in and although a little more pricey than the rest of the rooms the are well worth the extra money for a special occasion. They are very big rooms that have a kingsize bed, a seperate lounge area normally a sofa and a dining table and chairs, as well as a large balcony with patio furniture. You get upgraded toliletries in these rooms and the last time i went they were all from ...
