Advantages: Tourists love it. Disadvantages: Tourists love it.
Follow me, I want to show you one of the most beautiful German towns. I think you can trust me as a guide, I lived , loved and studied in Heidelberg for six years. You're not convinced, you think I'm prejudiced and all this talk about Heidelberg being romantic and picturesque is just 'ad speak' to lure the tourists and you'd like to hear a different opinion before you embark on your journey?
No problem, just listen to this: "Truly, Heidelberg is a place of all exceeding loveliness. Here the romantic ruggedness of the German landscape unites in perfect harmony with the delicate beauty of Italy." Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881)
"I have never enjoyed a view which had such a serene and satisfying charm about it as this one gives." Mark Twain, Heidelberg, 1878.
Do you believe me now? I don't want to bore you with too much history ...
The SAS Radisson hotel in Dusseldorf is one of the city's premier hotels. The hotel is located an Golzheimer Platz half way between the city centre and the Messe, or exhibition hall. The hotel is also conveniently located on the tram line which makes access to the convention centre and the city very easy. It is only a fifteen minute taxi drive from the airport. The hotel boasts two restaurants as well as a swimming pool and well equipped gym, for those who want to make use of the facilities. The prices are relatively high, particularly at fair time, and at this time the rooms are almost impossible to get, so book very early. ...
Advantages: So close that you can almost feel the breeze as the planes come in to land Disadvantages: It's more expensive than the more distant airport hotels
When is an airport hotel not really an airport hotel?
I have spent a stupid amount of time in airport hotels in the past year and have learned that the term 'airport hotel' can be very misleading. Some, like the Sheraton Dusseldorf Airport really are right at the airport whilst many can be a 10-15 minute cab ride away. As for shuttle busses that take you almost an hour to get from the hotel to the airport, there are far too many of those knocking about. My advice - for what it's worth - is to make sure you know exactly what you are getting when you book an airport hotel. A good price can be spoiled by discovering that the shuttle bus only goes once an hour and a taxi can cost you half the room rate just to get there. The Sheraton at Dusseldorf airport is exactly the best kind of airport hotel
