Advantages: forests and nature Disadvantages: very little public transport
...". There are approximately 9,000 inhabitants. There are a couple of quite big supermarkets, many bars, 4 or 5 hotels, a train station, (only two trains a day, to Béziers of Paris the long way) and a tourist office where you can find all sorts of information on the events and sights to visit around that area. It's a cross road between the "Orb" valley, river which runs through the town, and the road that leads from Béziers, which is the nearest city. (34 kilometers south). Bédarieux is the 1st town in the hills after 30 kilometers of flat and vine covered plain, which goes right to the Mediterranean coast. It is also the beginning of the "parc naturel du haut Languedoc", a protected nature reserve.
This nature reserve was founded in 1973, and consists of 70% of forest. That's 180 000 hectares of trees! (1 hectare = 10 km2). These trees were planted mostly...

It may be a 3 hours drive from Toulouse (the nearest big southern city), about ten hours (traffic jam aside) from Paris.
If you’re traveling by railroad, as it is easy to do with the Eurostar, it might take about 8 hours from London, depending on your various connecting trains.
The town is a nice summer holiday destination, to lie in the sun and have a break, eat seafood, sail or dive or whatever one can do near the sea, but IMHO it lacks personality and character.
Lots of ugly square concrete buildings to pack tourists into, but not much worth visiting.
As many coastal cities, it boasts a casino (a small one of course) where you can give away your poundnotes to the French Tax Service , thank you very much.
Oh...
