Hotel Impero, Rome

...to start !!!! Well this hotel is in my opinion an average cost for a 3* hotel inRome at about £105 per room per night including breakfast. I know you can definately get cheaper priced hotels but I was happy with this cost for what you get (all will be revealed).

Fantastically this hotel is located just next to the Republica Square and just 5 minutes walking distance from the central railway station in Rome (Termini) and Via Nazionale (one of the main shopping streets). Also a plus is that it is just 15 minutes walking distance from the Colosseum and Venice Square.
TIP - The gladiators outside the Colosseum who offer to take a photo on your camera, charge 10 euros each just for this priviledge ... more

Hi and thankyou for your interest in my review. I have worked in the Travel industry for over 20 years now and thought It would be nice to share my experiences and thoughts. I do hope this review is helpful and would appreciate a rating at the end.

Well then lets get started.

*********COST**********
This is always my favourite place to start !!!! Well this hotel is in my opinion an average cost for a 3* hotel inRome at about £105 per room per night including breakfast. I know you can definately get cheaper priced hotels but I was happy with this cost for what you get (all will be revealed).

*************LOCATION************
I have to say that the Hotel Impero is in a super location, in a lovely leafy area. I would best descibe the location as right in the centre of the historical art city of Rome, overlooking the Roman Opera Theatre. It is so easy to get to all of Rome's major attractions and the surrounding areas on foot or using the underground or bus from this base.
Fantastically this hotel is located just next to the Republica Square and just 5 minutes walking distance from the central railway station in Rome (Termini) and Via Nazionale (one of the main shopping streets). Also a plus is that it is just 15 minutes walking distance from the Colosseum and Venice Square.
TIP - The gladiators outside the Colosseum who offer to take a photo on your camera, charge 10 euros each just for this priviledge !!!
Even to the Vatican and Sistine Chapel it only took about 50mins walking . Most of the other sights like the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps were only about a 20-25 mins walk.
TIP - The Chapel only opens certain times of the day so i would check opening times before you go to avoid disappointment.
TIP - Get a map from reception for 3 euros because most of the guide book maps are too small a scale to see a thing.

*************ACCOMMODATION***********
This Hotel is an elegant early 20th century building. It was newly renovated which finished in 2005. I do have to say that as this is such an old and traditional building, no two rooms are alike !!!!

**************ROOMS**********
In the bedrooms you will find some original early 20th century pieces and on the doors you can see frescoes that show scenes of Classical Rome. I must say that the double rooms are a bit on the small side, but very comfortable and cleaned everyday.
Other facilities are a hairdryer, satellite TV, minibar, air-conditioning and Wi-Fi access.
Another thing I really must tell you about is the bathroom. Although not very big a lovely touch is the stone tiles (instead of the usual artifical marble) in the bathroom, a nice effect.

****************FACILITIES***********
Ok, so what does this hotel offer in the way of facilities ? Well it has quite nice sitting rooms, a veranda, a reading room, a tearoom and bar.
The front desk is open 24 hours a day, which I think is great and the staff are quite helpful (although their English leaves a bit to be desired).
The Continental Breakfast (served between 7am - 10am) is in a room called The Winter Garden and it is basic but you can eat as much as you want so you really are set up for a day of sightseeing.
For those of you who have any excess energy after a full day of sight-seeing there is even a table-tennis room!!! And I really must say about the great roof garden, which is excellent with its views over Rome.
The bar area is small but it has comfortable chairs for you to relax. NOTE - Don't be expecting a late night in this bar because it closed early in the evening.

************GETTING TO HOTEL************
I thought I would add this bit in, as this is always something that nobody seems to be able to tell you and is a nightmare to find out !!!!
From Rome Fiumicino airport (FCO): Catch the train from the airport terminal to Rome Termini central train station.
From Rome Ciampino airport (CIA): Catch the Terravision shuttle bus to Rome Termini central train station.
From Termini central railway station the Hotel is about 5 minutes walk away. From the big piazza in front of the station, turn left onto Via Cavour. After about 100 metres turn right onto Via Principe Amedeo, then at the end of the street turn left onto Via Del Viminale where the hotel is located. (as easy as that !!!)

**************CHILDREN*************
The Child policy with this hotel is - Children under 3 stay free in the adult's room. Children aged between 3 - 5 can have the 3rd bed free of charge. Children aged between 6-10 staying in a triple/quadruple room can have a maximum 1 child per room and receive a 50% discount from the double room rate per person per night.

****************EATING OUT**************
I do have to say that some of the restaurants in the immediate area are a little disappointing. But on a positive note there is a restaurant called the Alessio near to the Impero which is very good. It is straight out of the door and opposite the hotel to the left. You go down some stairs to get to the restaurant and there are no outside tables. But as far as the food goes it was excellent, as too was the service. It has a lovely authentic Italian feel to it.

******************OVERALL***************
I would recommend this hotel. Don't expect 5* standard and you will not be disappointed. Staff are great, services adequate, hotel is clean & comfortable, and it is good value for money for the location. All in all a great choice.
TIP - Rome is not paved, it's all cobble stones, so make sure you take good walking shoes !!!
