Advantages: Cheap(ish), good snow Disadvantages: only a few very easy runs which can get busy
...Tignes, part of the Espace Killy ski region lies the other side of the mountain from Val d'Isere.
Tignes is the cheaper of the two, and the atmosphere is much less like and Eton Boarding School Open Day and more like a multi-cultural resort.
The ski-ing in Tignes is superior to that of Val d'Isere with the majority of the black runs over this side. I would however recommend the full area lift pass so you can experience both resorts.
We stayed in Val Claret, not Tignesle Lac which was a good choice. Val Claret is situated at the base of all the main lifts and is serviced by a free ski bus to the other areas.
Tignes has an excellent snow record - we went late April and had no problems with the snow (well apart from the odd blizzard)!
A great place to ski for all...

Advantages: loads of runs, this resort would keep anyone amused Disadvantages: limited unless you buy the slighty more expensive lift pass
...I've been on a lot of ski hloidays but i can honestly say that tignes was the best resort yet! Its a huge area with thousands of exiting runs. If you get the 'acess all areas pass then you can ski all over the area which gives you a lot of variety and you would be lucky to fit it all in in one holiday.
I stayed at tigne val claret but the area covers tigne la lac and all the other local valleys etc. If your lucky (like I was) you'll be staying in a hotel where you can ski right up to your door. This is great because you dont have to bother with any innoying buses or walking up hills to catch ski lifts!
I would recomend this resort to anybody snowboarders or skiers!...

...“Le Curling” is good value modest ski accommodation. The Hotel is very well located – you can walk to the slopes in 2 mins and the skinning is this area is excelling, although a little limited for complete beginners.
The hotel itself is group and family friendly. The food was very good and there is unlimited house wine with dinner. The will make you up a packed lunch if required and there is an afternoon tea at about 5 each afternoon for when you get back from a hard day on the slopes. Our rep was excellent and knowledgeable, although some of the hotel staff are less helpful.
On the downside there is a bar come night club under the hotel that has live music several nights a week and runs until the early hours of the morning – even on the higher floors it can be noisy. Also there was an intermittent last of hot water at around 5...
