Hotel Lido Two Thousand, Ostende

Advantages: Good base for exploring, good selection of shops, bars and restaurants.
Disadvantages: Not as pretty as some other places. Building work is a problem at the moment.

...’t a hotel review so I’ll not go into too much detail. It does have a 24 hour reception though which is very useful if you want to take advantage of the late night bar opening!! ~~~BARS. There are two really good bars in Ostende for those wanting an extensive beer list ~ these are mentioned in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide to Belgium & Holland. These are the Café Botteltje on Louistraat and 't Ostens Bierhuus that is right across the road! Our favourite was 't Ostens Bierhuus, run by an English bloke called Tim. Beer prices are more expensive than we are used to in English pubs, but bearing in mind the strength of some of the beers (brews of 8% and above are pretty average features) you certainly get what you pay for! There are quite a few other bars around the place ~ there are even a few English style pubs (our hotel had one) and most hotels... Read review

Advantages: English is widely spoken;Nice beaches;Clean;
Disadvantages: Some items are expensive. Wide use of the Euro

...convenient with the rail station- if you want to go to Bruges ,Bruxelles,or Liege- and the tram stops where you can conveniently catch the tram to take you along the pleasant coast line-all nicely integratd at the terminal. Oh how I wish that was the case in Dover where both the Eastern and Western Docks are a considerable distance away from the Dover rail station whilst the Stagecoach bus services only go to the Western Docks. Accommodations in Ostend- or Oostende in the local lingo- are very reasonably priced-I stayed in a two star hotel for only around 17 pounds and even if you want to move to a 3 star place... Advantages: Friendly, clean and well situated.
Disadvantages: A bit dated and wasn't really for us.

...in October this year we have found another slightly higher rated hotel to stay in instead. It was comfortable, clean and well worth the money we paid. It just really wasn't the place for us though and was catering more for an older audience. As a two star hotel it is a good place to stay for a couple of days, but not a place for a romantic or luxury break. It is in an ideal location for the tourist attractions, the sea front and makes an excellent base for touring the Flanders area of Belgium. I could also see it would make an affordable place for anyone visiting the Ostende area on business ~ it is easy to get to and within easy reach of the station. Although in a good place for getting to the seafront and beach I'm not sure either if it would be the place for families, especially ones with slightly older children who need entertaining...
