Hotel Los Angeles is 5 minutes from the beach, less than one minute to the bars (across the road!) and less than one minute to the restaurants and shops. What a wonderful holiday! We searched the Internet for ages for information on our hotel prior to our holiday and found nothing - so here you are for anyone else interested in going!
Hotel Los Angeles is 5 minutes from the beach, less than one minute to the bars (across the road!) and less than one minute to the restaurants and shops. It is very commercialised - you don't feel like you're seeing much of Spain, but the cheap prices for everything including our holiday and beautiful scenary and beaches make up for it.
The hotel itself is a bit more than basic - it has 2 twins and either a single or bunks in the two rooms we had between the four of us (myself, my boyfriend and two friends, all early 20s). A bath and shower and TV (only CNN English speaking). The walls are paper thin. I would not recommend it as a hotel for light sleeping adults or children. We were woken at all hours by people in the corridor talking, next door, outside and the people above somehow managed to move the 6 pieces of furniture for over half an hour every night! The hours kept out there - start pubbing at about 10, clubbing after 2am or 4am, meant that you were awoken anytime up until about 6am, then again when everyone got up for breakfast, but it was ok if you can drift off again easily. I still wouldn't swap as we were right in the middle of everything - you could walk everywhere from the hotel.
My one real issue with the hotel was the public toilets downstairs. There were 3 in the ladies. 1 was generally working, if you could find toilet roll. 1 was always surrounded by water - you had to paddle to the loo! The third was never unblocked in the week we were there. Ugh!
We caught a train (about 1300 pesetas for the 1 1/2 hour trip) to Barcelona for the day and did the sightseeing tour which is well worth it - you take in the main centre, olympic stadium and memorabilia museum, Spanish village selling traditional handicrafts (we spent 1 1/2 hours there!) and various other sites.
We also went to the water park at La Pineda. There weren't as many rides as I had hoped, but what was there were wonderful! There were mild and scarey, from short to vertical drops! Only around £10 to get in too.
Our friends went to Port Aventura that everyone raved about. They were only there 7 hours and felt that was sufficient, though most people say 2 days. The queues were what really put them off - their shortest was 15 mins, the longest 45 mins (after which they couldn't get on anyway because the ride broke down!). Basically it seems to be your normal theme park - you'll know then what you're letting yourself in for.
The beaches were stunning, the water lovely and clear, and there's so much to say about Salou there isn't the space! It is one of the best holidays I've been on and I would definitely go again. It's so close the journey is nothing, and you can get traditional (Oily!) Spanish food or fish and chips if you're that way inclined.
We went to Flowers Scottish pub across from our hotel, and the Happy Drinker by the beach (the small cove one if you're that way) shows English films if that's how you like to spend your holiday. It's right by the beach so everyone else can get out and enjoy being abroad!!!
Advantages: We only had a two week holiday Disadvantages: see review
...were not guest at the hotel acting very suspiciously.
On further inspection someone noticed they were taking photographs of the children from under the table. When approach the woman ran away but the man was restrained by guests. He explained he was taking photos of little blonde girls as they reminded him of his grand daughter, the police were called & they asked the woman to return with the camera. Two hours later she returned with no photos of ... ...We all asked the following questions, Why run in the first place?
Why take two hours to return?
Why did her partner admit to photographing children?
The police said they had no evidence so they couldn't act, she walked away laughing & blowing kisses to the worried parents In short if you only need a couple of hours sleep each night, would like to each chips every day of two weeks & don't mind having your children photographed by total strangers ...
