gentle hill, overlooking the popular Cornish village of Padstow. In addition to being one of the county\'s prettiest fishing villages, Padstow is best-known for its seafood, which features, of course, on the hotel\'s AA Rosetted menu. The village harbour is a working one and it\'s always a pleasure to watch the fishing boats return home to unload their catch, much of which is available in the village. A picnic lunch purchased in Padstow can be a veritable feast! In fact, Padstow has quite a maritime history and there are some quirky facts to discover in the local museum. A myriad of winding streets filled with an eclectic selection of shops and galleries will keep you browsing for hours.

marvelously well located right in the historical center of the European capital, just a few steps away from the "Grand-Place", the "Bourse" and the "Theatre de la Monnaie" and close to the city's most exciting shopping thoroughfare of Brussels. It is notable for the quality of its service and its internal decoration. The main entrance is decorated in French Renaissance style, the reception hall in Empire style, some rooms in Art Deco style. In April 2002, the Council of Monuments and Sites of the Brussels-Capital region has protected the Metropole Hotel's façade, as well as the ground floor. Through the years, the Metropole has offered its beautiful settings for the shooting of many prestigious movies.

Accommodation
Lyon like any other major city offers a wide range of hotels at different prices. I personally stayed at the very reasonable and very nice Campanile Part-Dieu. This hotel was ideal. The rooms came with en suite bathroom and cable TV. The rooms were clean and the hotel itself modern and very well looked after. The best thing of all about the hotel though was its situation. Part-Dieu is one of the main areas in Lyon. Firstly, it is home to a large SNCF railway station that links Lyon with the rest of France. Secondly, and most significantly for anyone on holiday, the 'Centre Commercial' is here. This is a massive shopping centre with over 260 shops and spanning 4 floors; one of the largest shopping centres in Europe with all big name shops and some really nice places to eat.
If you stay in the Part...

Advantages: getting aroung the city Disadvantages: too much to see in a weekend
...I can't believe Lyon is not promoted more in the UK! We had the task of picking up a relative from the train station (Lyon Perrache) and so we decided to make a weekend of it. And what a weekend!
The shopping, for a start is formidable, from the huge mall at Lyon Part Dieu to the small shops and department stores in the city. However, the buildings, architecture and sights of the city are quite something else.
The massive squares in the city have to be the best in Europe. My favourite is in front of the Hotel de Ville. The building is magnificent and the square has decorative fountains and a huge fountain with four horses depicting the four great rivers of France. Adjacent to the hotel de ville is the Museum des Beaux arts with some very impressive pieces. This is just a short walk from the Opera House and also the old part of Lyon...

Advantages: History, culture and good food Disadvantages: Industrial backdrop
...Lyon has long suffered being the second largest city in France, continuously having to compete with the illustrious Paris. Be warned, first impressions of Lyon are not to be trusted - the abundance of factories, (the chemical corridor,) the long, intertwined motorways full of traffic and the overbearing greyness of the buildings - give yourself a chance to discover the real heart of this city.
The 'Old Town' lies in the centre of the city, and here you will find winding, narrow streets leading you to a splendid collection of Rennaissance buildings - long since demolished in other parts of France. The landscape is really impressive, for those of you who know Paris, imagine St Germain with the terrain of Montmartre. To the west there is a stunning Gallo-Roman theatre overlooking the Saone, the city also boasts an opera house built in 1831...
