My wife and I fancied a week in the sun because of the rotten weather in England so jetted off in May at a very reasonable price, arriving in late evening. The hotel looked very unprepossessing from the outside, like an old house facining onto a small hilly street. Inside though this little place was immaculate and decorated in typical Portuguese style - all white walls and polished wooden doors. Bedrooms comfortable and staff very helpful and friendly (after we had checked in we were very hungry after a long day of travel so one member of staff even guided us through the dark street to a really good restaurant). It is bed and breakfast only which was fine as there are plenty of good and reasonably eating places restaurants within walking distance. A simple English style buffet breakfast is served each morning - cereals, tea or coffee and usually eggs, fried, scrambled or boiled together with bacon, followed by toast. The hotel has a nice terrace with a small pool but the beach is splendid which was just what we were looking forward to and we had a good week mainly sunning ourselves there, cooling off in the Atlantic rollers and having good feasts when hungry. We had a good week and would go again to the Mansao Bertolina Unfortunately Albufeira is in the throes of very major roadworks at present so we would recommend waiting until these are finished before going there on holiday as there is a lot of dust and rubble about. The local tourist office reckoned that the roadworks would be finished by the end of June 2006 but to us this looked impossible and the general view seemed to be that September/October would be more like it. Nevertheless the local business people are going out of their way to alleviate matters by providing an exceptional level of friendly service - as typified by the excellent little team at Mansao Bertolina.
