Advantages: Historic, beautiful scenery, feel good place Disadvantages: None
A visit to Toledo is memorable for so many different reasons. Other visitors' reactions are most likely similar to mine - so much history, beautiful to walk through while experiencing how preservation of religion has affected architecture in this magnificent Spanish National Monument.
One day recently I joined thousands of other tourists to stroll through the narrow, steep, cobbled streets to glimpse just a little taste of how Toldeo has evolved since it was Spain's capital from Gothic days to 1560.
From the minute I sighted the main gate - Peurta de Bisgra, a ninth century creation - I knew this visit was going to be all it was promised to be by a dear friend who had been there six years earlier and advised, quite rightly, that it was a must when visiting Madrid, 71 kilometres away.

Advantages: Beautiful surrounding, nice shops, good food at reasonable prices Disadvantages: Not really in the league of some of the museums, too many people exhibiting themselves

Personally, I believe that the Plaza Mayor is a fantastic place to visit over lunch one day, where you can sit and enjoy ...

Advantages: A good read, with many twists and turns Disadvantages: Can be confusing and too descriptive
This was the first Hardy novel I read. I read "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" shortly afterwards, but "The Mayor of Casterbridge" was undoubtedly my favourite.

The twisting nature of the plot is possibly the most annoying thing about the book. The fact that it was published, initially, in magazines meant that chapters had to end on cliffhangers and be full of intrigue, but when you're battling your way through the full novel, it can be easy to lose track of some spare ends.
Hardy's other "problem" comes into play in this novel, too. Hardy is, I feel, overly descriptive and I only have a certain amount of patience for reading descriptions of fields.
Still, the book leaves its ...
