I have stayed in the HotelMiami, maybe three times. I have been to Es Cana probably about 8 or 9 times now. I'm only 20.
Anyway, on with the review. When I first stayed in the Hotel Miami, I was only young, but I do remember. We had a corner room with a balcony overlooking the sea and bar area, this due to my sister being in a wheelchair and needing the extra space. They were very helpful and did well to accommodate for this. Although the beds needed a bit of a shuffle and the wheelchair could not get into the bathroom. (As I say, we were young so Dad simply lifted her across). The rooms were comfortable. I remember them originally being abit dreary in decor, but I know for a fact they have since decorated as they were a nice light green colour
last time I stayed. Really brightening up the room and making you feel welcome. Depending on your room choices, you could be left overlooking the road, or if you opt for a sea view, you could still be left overlooking the kitchen and a new (low height) apartment compound. You can still see the sea, however, you probably dont expect those views to be added to the landscape. If you want to be picky, you can definitely request an end sea view room. That should sort out the problems! There was no air conditioning first time round, but they had it the second time. Obviously they know what customers want now!
The food I remember, was fantastic first time round. Absolutely excellent. However, second time round, it was very disappointing. Bare in mind second time round was still a good 5 years ago for me. However, I can clarify that the food has been of exceptional quality this year. We no longer stay in the Miami as we have purchased one of those obstructing low level apartments that might annoy you if you stay, but you can still eat in the Hotel Miami as a visitor. Which I do...regularly. The breakfasts are my favourite meal of the day, with wide ranges of food from scrambled eggs to bacon, toast, potato balls, yoghurts, fruit, cereals....there is a lot more choice than that. The only downfall with breakfast is the apple juiceglasses you get are pretty small. I want a BIG drink thanks. You have to collect the glasses if you want more than two gulps. Maybe I'm being a bit picky... Anyway, what I'm trying to say is they provide a wide range of food for all meals and the BBQ is on throughout the day, outside in the bar area. I really do love the food at the Miami.
The pool area, I personally hate. Only because I'm a bit anti-social. Its laid out well, with the gardens behind making it more appealing and the bar not more than 10 metres away. It is divided into 3 sections. The main pool, A pool of medium level used for games and aerobics, and a baby pool, of shallow level. I dont like the pool as it is ALWAYS crowded (or has been everytime I went). It also has no edge to hold onto in the main area. I have no idea whether this is the same in the other divisions. The sunbeds around the pool are always full, but I guess you come to expect that. There is a seperate area of sunbeds away from the pool, but the area tends to be covered in pine needles from the trees by the beach. Dont know about you, but I dont like getting those in my feet.
The waiters and barmen are always very friendly. Always happy and making jokes. Sometimes practical jokes, sometimes just jokes. Showing off. They make you feel very, very welcome. Having said that, none of the staff have ever been rude at all.
The location of the Hotel is ideal. If you walk out the main reception doors and head for the beach, it is literally, a two minute walk to the sea. I mean the sea. Not the beach. Over the sand and to the waves. If you walk around the pool way to the beach, maybe a 30 second walk? There are plenty of shops around the area and because Es Cana is such a little place, everywhere is within easy walking distance.
The nightlife has definitely improved since all those years ago. But I didnt stay out much this year. I'd rather sit at the bar in Hotel Miami and watch the entertainment. (Which I've seen a million times over now...but still insist on watching - mainly because the staff are so friendly and fun!)
