...El Salvador was not the first place that sprung to mind when i was deciding on my holiday for this year. Indeed, were it not for the fact that my brother is marrying a girl from there, i doubt that i would ever have visited the area
Thank God i did though! The place is superb. SanSalvador, the capital, is set in the hills. The people of this city are very, very poor, but they are also very welcoming and friendly
The heat was impossible. i dont know if it is normally that hot but i think thaqt i must have sweated out at least three tonnes of liquid that i was there
Everywhere i went were warnings that tourists should be careful at all times. Apparently crime is a major problem with shootings, muggings and theft a common problem throughout the year...

Advantages: Contemporary Style without the price Disadvantages: Lack of Facilities
...Staying in Hotels in San Fran is an expensive business, averaging probably around $150 a room for somewhere half decent. When I travelled to San Fran in October I found a boutique hotel, The Metropolis on the net for £70 a night. The website used was hotelnetdiscount.com an american agent.
The hotel was not too high on the facilities there was no restaurant or no pool, but it made up for it in style it was very conveniantly located two blocks from the cable car and three blocks from Union Square and very near to the Metreon centre. We stayed a total of 5 nights.
I could talk about the joys of San Fran all night but I leave that for someone else....

The management put the food out at the crack of dawn and left us to fend for ourselves. Every morning we woke at 6 am to the sound of whistles, yelling and loud hailers, as the strikers formed their picket line right outside the hotel. This racket went on all day but it was difficult to avoid. Two more days and the airlines went on strike for 180% rise and there were people stranded who couldn't get home, or to their next...
