Advantages: open, much to see and do, quite cheap Disadvantages: not as many eateries in Washington Monument area
...My husband and I visited WashingtonDC in October 2007, whilst traveling around the States. We stayed for 3 nights, at the Allen Lee Hotel. WashingtonDC is an interesting city. Its history is in stark contrast to its modern political face and the side that is shown in movies and on TV. What struck me immediately about WashingtonDC were the open spaces, not just in the parks and at the water front but also when simply walking down the street; it's a nice change from the claustrophobia of many US cities.
Because there was so much to see in WashingtonDC, we opted for a tour on one of the many open top buses that circle the city and surrounding area. At $39 for a 24hr, hop on-hop off pass, this was a real bargain and the best way to see everything in the city, in my opinion. From the war memorials and Arlington cemetary to the White...

Advantages: Good value for money Disadvantages: No bar
...Day's Inn is a good chain of hotels, as long as you are teetotal.
Or not drinking.
Or happy to go elsewhere for a drink.
Because the Day family does not have a liquor license for their hotels, they do not want it.
The hotels themselves are of a good standard.
From a UK perspective you would rate them 3 stars.
As Washington tends to be a pricey place, staying at a Day's Inn is an economical way to go, as some of the other hotels are extremely expensive.
You can expect to pay around $100 US per night and there are good American style breakfasts available.
Days Inns have different classifications with different price breaks. But you can be sure to get a comfortable room, large by UK standards, and helpful, friendly staff.
AND you dont have to worry about the staff drinking because
there are....
NO COCKTAILS!
You have been...

Advantages: lots to see Disadvantages: rumoured to be one of the murder capitals of the USA
...WashingtonDC was the first stop on our four week tour of the East Coast of the USA.
We flew from Glasgow to Boston on Northwest airlines and got an internal flight to Washington where we picked up a hire car. We arrived on a Sunday (no traffic – quite quiet) and because Washington is laid out in a grid pattern thought it would be the easiest thing in the world to find our hotel – the Days Inn on K Street. Nothing could be further from the truth.
K Street did not seem to fit into the normal grid system and proved difficult to find. Within 30 minutes of picking up our hire car we were driving across The Mall and seeing sights such as the Washington memorial and the Capitol from the car window –we were still seeing these sights an hour later as we drove in circles around Washington.
Eventually, having found the hotel...

Just got back from a lovely weekend in London and stayed at the the Washington Hotel in Mayfair. Do I reccommend this hotel - well it is good value. I booked direct from their website and it cost £89 plus VAT including full breakfast for two. This is for more
