The NH Dusseldorf City is a functional business hotel which is quite close to the Dusseldorf main station. It can easily reached from there by foot or a very short taxi ride. There is also an underground station right in front of the building.
The circular, multi storied atrium looks impressive, but doesn't have any cosiness to it. The dusky pink of the walls of the galleries and a huge, pale green glass installation are the main features.
Our check-in was not as quick as it could have been if the hotel would have pre-filled the registration form with the data they had. The reception lady was reluctant to permit a late check-out and negotiated our proposed 4pm down to 3pm requesting us to ask the Reception Manager the next day for a permission to stay longer. She also asked us if we wanted a twin or double room, and when we went up it turned out that she did not assign us the double we were asking for, but a room with two separate beds instead. Checking in to another room was done in a minute though. They all acted professional, but I missed a somewhat more personal touch.
The next day we received a call from the reception at 1pm, hinting us that we over time and asking when we would like to finally check out. Despite the call was friendly, the very fact that they did not make it to put the promised late check-out into the records was a bit annoying.
The size of the standard room is fair to OK, with small differences - the twin room we entered at first was notably smaller than the double. The interior was very 80's, with a triangular desk in one corner of the room and curtains with a design that was not even fashionable back then (yikes!). In contrast to the room, the bathrooms are very small. The room also showed some signs of wear, but cleanliness didn't give any cause for complaints.
Located close to the main station, the NH Dusseldorf City is very well suited for transients who just want to spent the night for a stopover. If you want to see the Old Town (which I recommend if you haven't seen it yet) then it takes a tram ride of about 10-12 minutes or a longer walk. The good news is: the subway station is right in front of the hotel.
The NH Dusseldorf City is OK to stay at for one night, but I would not like to spend more time here. Especially the out-fashioned room design put me off. But maybe for 63Euros (no breakfast included) you can't ask for more.
