The ups and downs of Zagreb

Advantages: Elegant architecture, plenty of green spaces, lots of museums, good food
Disadvantages: Not so good for people with mobility problems

central so you can easily take in a few sights before you leave. I still haven't over-nighted in Zagreb, my visits have always been for a day, and so far I've navigated the city on foot only. However it's clear from the outset that there are plenty of hotels, with the ones closer to the centre being more expensive - some are in very grand buildings, and the cheaper ones being closer to the train station. If you are looking for cheap hostel accommodation you can find several advertising at the train station, and there is always the possibility of private rooms though these tend to be further out of town. If you do need to go further afield you'll probably want to take advantage of the comprehensive tram system. The two main hubs are the area in front of the train station and the main square. At the main square in particular, pedestrians ...

Zagreb's colourful market

Advantages: Fascinating, colourful, might get to sample some Croatian foods, shop for a picnic
Disadvantages: Can't buy some things if you're in a hotel

Dolac is Zagreb?s very colourful central fresh produce market. It is situated in the area just behind Trg Bana Jelacic and you can access it though a small lane where you see the flower market start. The market was opened in 1930, having been built on the site of a slum clearance; it was agreed by the city's bigwigs that the houses there were not a fitting sight for visitors to a capital city and so they were duly demolished. I was delighted to read that in his speech at the opening of the market, the mayor of Zagreb Dr. Stjepan Srkulj said "?During my visit to Holland this year, ladies and gentlemen, I can honestly say that I did not see a market that was as nice as this...? - and, you know, it is rather special. Beyond the flower market you can either climb the stone steps to the market proper or go into the main indoor section ...

The domed Dom

Advantages: beautiful;, fascinating, reasonable, the coffins
Disadvantages: chrage for toilet and church, museum and website only in German

Last year I had a very unique opportunity to work in another country. I normally work at St Paul's Cathedral and got the chance to work in the Berlinerr Dom (Berlin Cathedral) for a week as an English tour guide. I was living right on top of my work place, as I was staying in a guest apartment in the cathedral's bell tower. I fell in love with Berlin and its cathedral so thought I would give you a virtual tour of this amazing building. Take a pew and sit back and enjoy. The Berlinerr Dom is very easy to get to as it is located in the central district of Mitte just by the Museum Island (where all the major museums are in Berlin). It is also just off one of Berlin's min streets Unter Den Linden, which runs from the Brandenburg Gate to the Berliner Dom and beyond. It is easy to get to the Berlinerr Dom. A number of buses go ...
