Advantages: beautiful, lovely weather, port aventura, aquaopolis, day trips to barcelona, cheap, safe area, bonavista market, close to airport Disadvantages: rush for sunbeds in the morning!
THE AREA:
Costa Dorada, meaning 'the golden coast' is a beautiful area, the small town of Salou is full of interesting shops and is great to just wander round.
ACTIVITIES:
There is plenty to do, Port Aventura is a MUST, suitable for all ages with spectacular shows and a wide variety of rides, it makes a great day out for all the family, although prepare to stay till late to watch the magnificent fireworks and light display.
Day trips to Barcelona are another great day out, although perhaps not so much for young children.
Snorkling of off a catamaran in the med was something i particularly enjoyed as this two hour trip was organised by our hotel, however i would recommend going earlier in the morning to avoid the midday heat as well as the midday rush!

We stayed at the Calypso Hotel in Salou for a 7night trip. On our arrival (10pm) we were politely dealt with by the reception staff. We were put on the top floor of the older building (This was OK for myself and my husband and 12 month old baba , but I wouldn't want to stay on this floor with young children. The lifts were good, and they always worked, and even though they only held 4 people, we didn't have to wait long.
Our room was way too small really, and it had very dated furniture and an uncomfortable bed. We had lots of storage space for clothes etc. This room slept 4, but I wouldn't want to stay in it with any more than 2 people.
The bathroom was brilliant, and it was very very clean. The shower was excellent, and we were supplied with clean towels and toilet rolls every day. I wish I could have a shower as powerful as ...

for excursions when alot cheaper to do it yourself like we did. Barcelona is only 11 euros on train but station is otherside of Salou from this hotel. Supermarket round the corner is very cheap for basics we bought booze and sat on our balcony as 2 lite of coke for 1.73 euros and 1 litr bacardi was only 6 euros. Snacks by the pool are reasonably priced. Hotel is very very clean and tidy, maid service very good. Beds are just fold up camp beds which makelot of noise (if you know what I mean) no good if kids sharing ur room they\'ll wake up ours were in rooom next door and still woke up. For a cheap bargain would stay again we paid £616 for week HB for 2 adults and 2 children. ...
