Ongiara - Niagara. Thunder of Waters.

Advantages: Fun holiday resort with exceptional Waterfalls
Disadvantages: Can get extremely busy in summer months

that lies between Great Lakes Erie upstream and to the south and Ontario downstream and to the north with the city alone receiving more than 20 million visitors each year. The 35 mile long Niagara River forms a natural border between the United States and Canada with the resorts spanning the border. There are actually two Niagara Falls cities each separated by the wide gorge but reachable via numerous bridges along the river. At Niagara it is the Rainbow Bridge. NIAGARA AND ME My first glimpse of Niagara had been during the journey from Toronto via the Queen Elizabeth Expressway was the rising mist which could be seen miles from the fall themselves and closer we got the sense of anticipation grew sharper but travelling through the city towards out hotel there seemed at first nothing special about the place we could have been in any ...

A Tale of Two Niagaras

Advantages: An unforgettable experience
Disadvantages: You'll get wet!

agreed we could pay on plastic and directed us over to a colleague with the words ?two aliens, no US currency!? Charming! And then we really were free to go. Niagara Falls, USA is mainly an industrial town and far less lively than it?s Canadian counterpart. As you come out of the Immigration building you find yourself in nicely laid out gardens. There is a modern Visitor Centre which boasts a cafe (closed) and a souvenir shop (tacky). What it did have was hot-air hand dryers in the Ladies loo and I spent quite a while directing the warm blasts over myself. The impression I got of the place from the brief time I spent there was of somewhere that had seen better days. There was a very run-down looking fun-fair and a couple of ?Honeymoon? hotels that might have been considered very smart in the 1940?s and 50?s but now just looked ...

Niagara Falls awesome

Advantages: breathtaking falls
Disadvantages: Clifton Hill area

Niagara Falls is one of the most awe-inspiring sights that I have ever seen. Before you can see the falls you can hear the thunder of the water cascading over the edge. We were there in June 2000 and found the place to be one of contrasts. The Niagara Parkway which runs alongside the Falls and on north to Niagara on the Lake is undoubtedly one of the nicest stretches of road that I have ever travelled along. The area immediately next to the Falls is quite scenic with well manicured gardens and floral displays but only one block west at the Clifton Hill area you have what can only be described as tourist trash- a combination of hideous neon displays advertising Ripley’s’ believe it or not’ and Madame Tussauds etc - it is totally out of sync with the raw, natural beauty of the Falls and surrounding area to the north ...
