Having been to prague recently and having stayed at this particular accomodation a few years ago, I was keen to give this place one final chance as I had had a really rubbish stay at this place. Similarly to my previous stay, I had notice that the Hotel seems to be advertised much cheaper on accomodation websites compared to near enough all other places to stay in prague.
getting to the accomodation
The details of getting to prague town centre are covered in my previous prague accomodation review, and whilst this accomodation is not as easy to get to location wise, a tram journey needed to get the accomodation from one of the central location's of prague town centre.
booking process
I booked this accomodation using a third party reservation booking website and paid around seventy euros for two nights.
about the accomodation
Whilst I was not keen on writing about this accomodation it has two hundred and fifty three rooms which the accomodation itself considers to be of three Star Class. It has around eight floors and thankfully the accomodation did have a good quality lift. The accomodation upon entrance has a manned front desk reception area and looks quite welcoming and open planned. To the right of the reception is a sitting area for guests of the accomodation and directly opposite the sitting area is a small Bar area that serves Beer, coffee and other drinks.
The accomodation during the morning from about seven until ten in the morning, serves a buffet style Self Service breakfast. Things on the buffet include a few different types of bread, rolls, cake bread, Ham, Cheese, muesli, porridge, and yoghurt. There are also free teas and coffee to be had during the breakfast time. This I found to be quite good for the morning, though at other times during the day the Restaurant by not serving any meals or drinks in the Restaurant area is slightly frustrating.
The lighting was good througout the accomodation and whilst I consider this one of the accomodation's strong points, this is all I have to say that is positive. I would say that I found the decorations of the walls, the carpets and general atmosphere to be extremely old fashioned and not in any way modern or up to date.
quality of the accomodation
It seems to be a reasonable Hotel and has nice clean Beds, and a television system that somehow strangely terresterial standard german television channels. The layout of the accomodation seemed in good order, though the decorations definitely lets this down dramatically. The carpets in the room were dark green the walls were white, though it felt as if a new paint would not go a miss. The facilities inside the room also had no Mini Bar, or kettle which meant that I could not have any coffee or tea products, no iron. The staff around the accomodation seemed to be more concerned with getting a few extra coins from the guests from the Bar area which I did not entertain.
disadvantages
Whilst taking a Shower like on my previous visit here, the Shower Device whilst it started seemed good, though when I turned the Shower Tap to full power the Device almost acts like a water cannon that the fire brigade will know about. The area around the accomodation seemed quite poor in comparison to staying at a more central prague location. The road behind the accomodation had a busy road around it and the place just did nothing to make the visit feel any good.
area around the accomodation
There is a supermarket called Albert a short walk away and a nice pub called the 'Chudoba'. I named the pub as it serves awesome Czechoslovakian Republic Beer and Good Food. This is important as there are a few convenience stores and bakery shops just directly opposite the accomodation, though a thing to note is that after ten in the evening, the Restaurant's are closed and this Hotel does not have a Mini Bar or have any places to get Food or snacks during the late evenings.
In comparison to the pension beetle Hotel I stayed at the time before this, I found myself staying in a seemingly rougher part of town. The pension beetle surroundings were generally safe and a much more relaxed. Here however, there seemed to be many local Czechoslovakian people waiting for trams almost outside the accomodation. The accomodation also has an affiliated massage and sauna Service Area.
conclusion
Whilst the price for my stay was quite cheap compared to anywhere else to stay in prague the actual accomodation itself which is in need of updating makes me not recommend this accomodation.
