Last year in the Sunday supplements I read about the new Hilton Hotel that had just opened in Venice and they had comments on the wonderful views and the roof terrace.
As we had booked to visit Venice in March of this year, and had been several times before this was an opportunity to see another view of Venice from a different area.
I had read that it is a large hotel and thinking about Venice and the size it must be out of the main Venice tourist area, we had not seen any building work on that scale the year before.
The Hilton hotel is in the Giudecca area of Venice away from St. Mark's Square. We had to catch a water bus from San Zaccaria, over to Zitelle and then just wondered along until we arrived at the Hilton which is the other end of Giudecca Island.
They do say that Elton John has a house in this part of Venice ...

I discovered the Hotel Campiello on my second trip to Venice a few years ago. We were on a 10 day trip to Italy and had decided to spend most of the time in Rome and Florence, trying to leave 2 or 3 days free to include Venice. We had booked our hotels in Rome and Florence in advance but left the booking of the Venice leg until we were in Rome. We were staying at Hotel Paba in Rome (itself a gem of a place) and told the owner that we were thinking of booking into one of the big luxury hotels in the Venice Lido for 2 ...
A well situated hotel in lido Venice, 5 minutes from the Boat station and 15 minutes to St.Mark´s Venice.
Very close to the Beach and the Palazzo del Cinema, where the Film festival take place.
The staff is very welcoming and pleasant, breakfast quite good, specially in summer in the private Garden.
In summer days was quite amazing just take a bike given from the hotel and ride all the island long take a long drink on the way and coming back long the Venice lagoon in the light of the sunset, just heaven!
In the evening there are many restaurants close to the hotel, all reacheble by feet, where we found good fish food in venetial style.
Rate quite average, I´ve booked through [http://www.lidodivenezia.it Lido VeniceHotel] ...
Perfectly located close to the famous San Marco Square and the beautiful Rialto Bridge, this hotel is the ideal base for guests who long to immerse themselves in Venetian culture. The hotel is easily accessible from the airport, the railway station and the main parking areas, and is ideally placed near all of the citys most important attractions. Step outside the ancient, fully air-conditioned building and spend the day strolling along the charming streets, coming face to face with beautiful monuments and famous sights at every turn.
