Hotel Palumbo, Ravello

Advantages: Beautiful, Italian, romantic
Disadvantages: Very narrow roads and very hilly

...The Amalfi coast is possibly one of the most beautiful and romantic places in the world. We got engaged there, in Ravello, so it obviously holds a very special place in my heart. There are several towns which are beautiful to stay in. We were based in Positano which is split into 2 areas by a deep ravine. All hotels are ont eh cliff face with fantastic views out to sea. Positano can get a bit touristy in high season so I would recomend going in Spring time - late April through to early June. There are also many good places to eat to suit most budgets and a couple of very special hotels if your budget allows. Otherwise there are plenty of excellent guest houses which are clean and comfortable. Amalfi itself is an historically interesting town and well worth a visit. Advantages: Best of both worlds for walkers (and cyclists, cross country skiers and horse-riders)
Disadvantages: If you don’t like walking (or cycling or skiing or riding) read no further

...enjoyable day. Just a shame about the icy wind and snow! On day three we moved on to Ravello, accompanying our luggage by car some of the way, and walking the final 9km with a loop inland through lemon-groves from Maiori; could have done more had the route allowed for it. Ravello is a beautiful old town of narrow streets and gardens, perched on a hilltop high above the sea. Here Inntravel have found another comfortable and characterful hotel with good food – the Villa Maria. But we had another quibble with the route-planning; Inntravel’s notes suggest you spend the next day (4) exploring the town. Full of interest though it is, Ravello does not require a full day, especially if you have arrived early the previous afternoon. But we found the local Tourist Office sold a local walking map for €1 showing paths down to the seashore, so... Read review

Advantages: ideal for non flyers wishing to travel to the warmer climate of the med.
Disadvantages: NOT A TRIP FOR CHILDREN WHO WILL GET RESTLESS ON A LONG COACH JOURNEY

...stopping in Sorrento (4 Star Grande Hotel Ceasare Augusto) Followed by a four day journey home...stopping off in Rome, Lake Maggorie, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium, on the way. (All Half Board). I have checked the itinery for 2008 and the Sorrento trip (2008) looks even better than 2007. Hotels and routes have been changed and the itinary has slightly altered (In my opinion FOR THE BETTER).. Probably from passenger feedback and the wonderful dedication of the driver Darryl who "TAKES ON BOARD" any comments and suggestions which will make the trip more enjoyable the following year.
