Hotel Paradies, Graz

Advantages: Able to get it last minute, nice surrounding area
Disadvantages: Food, Staff, Price, Other guests, the room....... everything else

...It was pure chance that we stayed at the Paradis Park Hotel in Pineda De Mar. Whilst looking for a cheap and cheerful last minute deal to get some sun I spotted a package to the Calella Palace Hotel through Teletext holidays online. After a bit of research the decision was made to book it, however, the dates we wanted weren't available. We were offered an allocation on arrival for the same price, or for an extra £45 each we could have an alternative named hotel of the same rating. Being unadventurous I opted for the latter and was given the choice of the Alexis Hotel (I had previously read reviews all of which were bad) and the Paradis Park Hotel. Advantages: Clean, comfortable, relatively cheap and good location
Disadvantages: Garish decor, feeble looking breakfast

Of the cheaper hotels listed, Hotel Strasser appeared to have the most convenient location just minutes from the train station and only a short walk or a tram ride.to the historic centre of Graz. We were even able to check room availability using the terminal and though Strasser is not one of them, it is possible to reserve rooms via this system if you wish to be certain the room will still be available when you arrive at the hotel. The distance of the hotel from the station was even smaller than we had expected and we did, for just a moment, wonder if we were doing the right thing; after all hotels by stations often have bad reputations and can be of a low standard. ...If like me you are the sort of person who prefers to stay in more moderate hotel accommodation in order to have more money to spend on things like eating out (or the purchasing of horrific souvenirs) you may be interested to know that to celebrate their 30th anniversary, some of the brands that fall under the Accor umbrella are offering a limited number of rooms at special rates this year. It does mean that you can't alter your reservation and won't qualify for a refund if you cancel but for those travellers who are willing to risk that, there are bargains to be had. In mid-June we are going to Hanover and have booked a double room in a very central Mercure hotel for just 39 Euro per night and have just stayed in the Ibis Graz, the subject of this review, for 59 Euro for a double room, a saving of some 20 Euro based on two people...
