February 2009. PlayaCaleta is rated a 4 star. Sunwing Travel advertises it as a Sunwing Club Exclusive...whatever that means? We would call it the ?Club Torture?
The hotel has a spacious, open-concept lobby on two levels. The lobby and the rest of the hotel are filled with cigarette smoke. When we asked the front desk staff if there was any non-smoking public areas, they answered with giggles as they held their lit cigarettes below the counter. This is supposed to be a family hotel; if you or your children can survive the second-hand smoke that saturates everything, you will still have a family.
Buses idled right in front of the open hotel entrance, filling the lobby with carbon monoxide. As we discovered, vehicles in Cuba have no exhaust standards. From scooters to buses, they all spew black or blue smoke.

Sa CaletaPlaya apartments are tiny compared to other resorts I had been to. And that?s what it is- a resort, it is not simply standalone apartments. It has all the features of a hotel- e.g. reception, bar etc. But it is just apartments instead of rooms. There are 107 apartments in block of three. As they are in blocks of three, there is a ground apartment, a first floor apartment and a second floor one. The first and second floor apartments have a balcony and the ground floor accommodation has a terrace garden.

I'm not sure if the hotel offers any car parking facilities as I hadn't needed any.
It's a 3 star rated hotel and is quite modern and situated quite centrally in the resort of Costa Caleta (or Caleta de Fuste, or Castillo as it is also known) Only a short 10-15 mins transfer time from the airport. It has over 300 rooms. It was built in 2005 so is still quite new. The hotel is only about 5-10 mins walk (5km) from the beach and the shops and parks are all nearby too.
They do have internet facilities with 2 PC's in the lobby with pay to use internet ...
