...I've been in the resort of Salou in the Costa Dorada of Spain.
One of the main reasons this place was chosen was because it been so near a theme park. PortAventura is run by Universal.

It is really near where I stayed in the centre of Salou so it only took a short walk to get there which made it very convinent. It involves walking along a dual carridgeway and a fwe roundabouts but there is a wide path so it is not dangerous thorugh there are trees in the middle of the paths.
There are a lot of hotels in the area so it makes it great for families who want a beach holiday but also a day or two in a theme park.
If you are really lazy, you can get the train too from the main train station in Salou or use a bus, taxi or road train.

PortAventura is a theme park owned by Universal and is located right next to the popular Spanish resort of Salou on the Costa Dorada. It is situated in the new town of Salou and can easily be reached on foot by hotels in this area. Alternatively if your not within walking distance it is only a two minute train journey from Salou's railway station (3 euros). Buses, taxis and road trains also do services which drop you off right outside the main entrance. There are two hotels onsite also owned by Universal which add extra convenience if your really lazy! Local towns such as Tarragona, Cambrils, Cap Salou and La Pineda also offer a bus service...

My partner and I visited the new Hotel Gold River in late September 2009 for two nights, as we had stayed at a couple of the PortAventurahotels previously (El Paso and Caribe) and were keen to see the latest addition to the park complex, a themed hotel created to resemble a western town. It is a 502 room hotel set in several acres backing onto the PortAventura theme park and was opened in July 2009 in a ceremony performed by the actor Larry Hagman, famous for his role as JR Ewing in the 80?s TV series ?Dallas?.
Arriving by car, the western motif is evident as soon as you leave the main road that continues to the park entrance, with an impressive sculpture of the fictional town?s founder...
