This hotel has got to be one of the best kept secrets when it comes to staying in Vienna. The city is so compact that it is easy to explore on foot and the family run Hotel Post is one of the most economic places to stay in the central Ring area of Vienna. You are less than 10 minutes walk from the Stefansdom, Kaerntnerstrasse and the Graben and there's a subway (U-Bahn) station - Schwedenplatz about 3 minutes from the hotel, as well as stops for numerous different tram-lines. So everything is within easy reach for tourists wanting to fit in as much as possible during their visit.
The Hotel Post is an older style of hotel and perhaps not as luxurious as some of the more modern hotels in the city, however, rooms are spotlessly clean, large, with usual features and more than good value for the price. Continental style buffet breakfast is excellent (try getting coffee this good in a British hotel!) and I've "stocked up" there for a day's sight-seeing on more than one occasion. Reception staff are exceedingly helpful and happy to recommend what's on, where to eat etc. Definitely a good bet for a stay in one of Europe's most beautiful and historic cities.
Advantages: One of the World's best. What a history! What a guest list! I've read the book and worn the T-shirt!! Disadvantages: Expensive - but you get what you pay for. There can be special offers

The reception area is approached through a revolving door from the street attended by doormen and porters dressed in maroon jackets and caps. The first impression is of subdued grandeur, with marble columns, dark wood panelling and crystal chandeliers. The hotel personnel are attired in formal dress giving at first sight a reserved frosty aura. On the right, immediately inside, is the concierge desk and beyond that the reception area. This...
