Advantages: All facilities, great shopping, good base for day trips Disadvantages: Very modern city, not much of 'real' Mexico, some may find boring
I lived in Guadalajara for six months. It is Mexico's second biggest city, and very modern with an airport, department stores etc.
There are some things well worth seeing, such as the famous mariachi festival, where groups of singers from all over the world come for a parade, dressed in traditional costumes you see on tequila bottles. Guadalajara is famous for mariachi, who often serenade you in a restaurant, and take requests! Some might find this a bit kitsch, but others will love it. Guadalajara is also the birthplace of tequila, very touristy but very fun!
Guadalajara is good for the more well-off tourist, and particularly families, as you can live in great, modern comfort. There are loads of good restaurants, and beautiful plazas with French style colonial buildings, benches, trees and modern art. It's a good city to ...
Advantages: Friendly staff, great ambiance, decor, cleanliness Disadvantages: Can be crowded
If you want to visit the wonderful city of Madrid and stay in true luxury, then the Silken Puerta America is the place to go. Great facilities, excellent location, friendly staff, and surprisngly reasonable prices if you "shop around" the Net for special deals.
Located about 2 minutes walk from Caragena metro station, the Hotel is in a quiet part of town, and yet the centre, with all it's attractions, is just two metro stops away, and a return metro journey costs only 2 euros, which is less than £2.00. Compare that with the minimum £4.00 single on London's Underground, to see what good value Madrid can be as a holiday destination.
From the outside, the Puerta America does not look anything special - just a high rise with some strange grafitti-style writing in many languages, all over the facade......... but step over the threshold ...
Advantages: Central location, clean Disadvantages: Food, rooms
We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too.
Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly.
My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern.
I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower.
The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close.
The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated ...
The hotel is well-situated on the outskirts of Guadalajara, just 15 minutes from the AVE station and 30 minutes from the airport and the Juan Carlos I exhibition and events centre. The modern hotel has a large car park and is surrounded by green areas. All rooms are exterior-facing and are light and airy. In addition, the hotel has ample event halls suitable for both business conventions and celebrations. There is convenient access to the motorway, and given its close proximity to the countryside and mountains, it is a great base to use for those looking to explore the neighbouring villages and landscape.
