Advantages: Gorgeous Climate, Beautiful Culture, Picture moment Scenaries Disadvantages: driving(?)
) In Orange we also took a pic with the arc de triumph.
Food there is excellent, like we have hot dog stands - icecream vans, there they have pizza vans - and i must say the pizzas were absolutely delicious and very different to what we are used to here (much thinner/crispier). In marseille they love their fish dishes, which are pretty good.
Its important to note that marseille has a natural culture. That is why you wont really find packaged holidays to marseille, (a bit touristy) you would mostly arrange your own visits there, but its still a great experience in my opinion.
A nice hotel with swimming pool may cost just under 100 pounds a night.
There are places just outside Marseille worth visiting, the shakespeare thing for example and a place i went to called Toulon (largest opera house after paris)

Ciao members have rated this review on average: very helpful Review of Marseille
Advantages: Unique atmosphere Disadvantages: certain seedy areas
I lived in Marseille for a couple of years in the centre and it was quite an experience! Cannot recommend it enough for the endless sunshine, beach with skateparks and great cafes, long avenues lined with trees for nice walks/skates and most of all the local day trips into the "Calanques" the pristine white cliffs, pines and blue sea to the East as well as the proximity of the Riviera, Aix-en-Provence and the constant day and night hustle and bustle of the place. The mainly North African markets (can't remember the name of the big one, maybe Capucines?) is absolutely amazing with the best fruit and veg selection I have ever seen. The downsides were the general seediness of some of the areas which I were pretty scary at night and the endless slums in the suburds. ...
Advantages: Cheap, clean, comfortable, nice breakfast and staff, easy to visit all of Paris Disadvantages: None
This week we had a 2 night break to Paris; we stayed in the HotelResidence Monge.
I found the hotel on the internet through Parishotels.com. I then used various review sites to find out what others thought.
Area
The hotel is situated in the 5th arrondissement, walking distance to Notre Dame. It was a nice area to walk around in; plenty of lovely restaurants, bars and shops only 5 minutes walk away. 2 metro stops are nearby, Luxembourg and Place Monge.
We ate out both evenings. Both meals were lovely and reasonably priced, but I can't remember names of restaurants.
Hotel
The hotel is fairly basic. It's a 2*. We choose it as a base for somewhere to sleep. You walk into reception, which has a couple of settee's in front. It is quite a dark reception. Next to reception is a small breakfast room. More on breakfast later ...
