Mostar - rebuilding bridges?

Advantages: Lots of culture and history, cheap, tasty food, kind people
Disadvantages: Those slippy footpaths!

Town but most just serve coffee (Bosnian style) or tea (Turkish style). If you want a standard coffee you must ask for a ?Nescafe?. If you do want alcohol with your lunch or want something other than minced veal dishes, you will need to find a more up-market restaurant. Fortunately, even in tourist trap Mostar, prices are really cheap. Ice cream is hugely popular and very cheap too; you will struggle to choose only one flavour so go for a combination. As food is so cheap you will have money left for souvenirs. If you are so inclined you can buy lots of cheap rubbish, and some of it is quite pretty. However, you can buy some quality items such as the copperwares, rugs and some of the art work. Pomegranates ? the national fruit of Bosnia and Herzegovina ? are a popular subject matter but there are several talented artists painting lovely ...

Hôtel Restaurant La Flambée -dine in style but bedrooms plain.

Advantages: Beautiful dining room
Disadvantages: Bedrooms adequate but not elegant.

We stayed at the Hôtel Restaurant La Flambée in Bergerac in November 2008 for two nights and enjoyed breakfast and dinner. What follows is an honest account as possible about the hotel as I can provide. Hopefully this may help if you are planning to visit this part of the world. We flew to Bordeaux but the most convenient airport for the hotel is actually in Bergerac as the hotel lies about 2 miles outside the town. Incase you are not familiar with this part of the world these places are in the main wine growing areas, and are in South West France. Flying time from the UK is about an hour and a half if you are flying from the London areas. Easyjet will take you to Bordeaux from Luton, likewise British Airways will fly you from Gatwick, and Ryanair will fly you from Stansted to Bergerac. This area is great as it is possible to use as ...

Review of Hotel Restaurant La Flambee, Bergerac

Mostar's bridge over troubled waters

Advantages: Idyllic setting, fascinating history, friendly people
Disadvantages: Difficult to get to - limited range of facilities

life. At this stage the day was nearly over and it was time to leave the left bank of the river to drive through the other side of the town where we had a table booked in a very communistic looking hotel. Here with all the other members of the coach party we had a three course meal which was huge portions and good value but after everything we had seen and walking around in the heat all day I didn't feel very hungry. Finally the meal was over and it was time to leave Mostar. Driving through this city with desolated tenement blocks, bullet holes indented in all buildings, you come to the Old Gymnasium standing in the Spanish Square. It was built in 1898 in a Turkish architectural style and for generations, Mostar's citizens were educated there. At the time I visited it was in a semi derelict state waiting to be reconstructed ...
