Hôtel Restaurant La Flambée -dine in style but bedrooms plain.

Advantages: Beautiful dining room
Disadvantages: Bedrooms adequate but not elegant.

We stayed at the Hôtel Restaurant La Flambée in Bergerac in November 2008 for two nights and enjoyed breakfast and dinner. What follows is an honest account as possible about the hotel as I can provide. Hopefully this may help if you are planning to visit this part of the world. We flew to Bordeaux but the most convenient airport for the hotel is actually in Bergerac as the hotel lies about 2 miles outside the town. Incase you are not familiar with this part of the world these places are in the main wine growing areas, and are in South West France. Flying time from the UK is about an hour and a half if you are flying from the London areas. Easyjet will take you to Bordeaux from Luton, likewise British Airways will fly you from Gatwick, and Ryanair will fly you from Stansted to Bergerac. This area is great as it is possible to use as ...

Les Tourtettes Hotel

Advantages: Just off the motorway
Disadvantages: TGV line runs along side

This hotel was used by my husband and I on our way back from Corsica to our home in Deux Sevres, France. It proved to be a good choice, as it was situated right next to the motorway. The hotel was extremely comfortable, with large bedrooms and an equally spacious bathroom with both bath and shower. The staff were delightful, and went out of their way to help. For example we had failed to notify them that we would like to use their free wifi facility, when we paid online. The young man on reception found a way of circumventing their procedures to ensure that we had access to it in our room. Equally covenient was the fact that the hotel had its own restaurant, although it is advisable to book a table at the time of check in as their is another hotel next door without a restaurant, and the guests of this establishment tend to eat in ...

The hotel with Royal connections

Advantages: Location, history, friendly owners
Disadvantages: Not open in winter

of the hotels. Ballater has 9 hotels, 8 guest houses, 9 B&Bs, 25 self catering sites, 2 campsites, 2 caravan sites but no hostels. You could always phone her majesty if you get stuck, I?m sure she?d have a spare room at Balmoral to ?shack up?!! Although it can get cold here in the winter, in summer the Cairngorm mountains shelter Ballater & give it a rather pleasant climate. Ballater has 17 restaurants; some are listed below, one bank with an ATM, one Post Office & a medical centre. The biggest events in Ballater include Victoria week, Ballater Highland Games (The Queen attends the Breamar games in September) & Royal Deeside walking week. RESTAURANTS INCLUDE: La Mangiatoia, rustic Italian restaurant open daily, tel 01339 755999. The Auld Kirk, stylish restaurant open daily, tel 01339 755762, www.theauldkirk.com The Darroch ...
