We visited this hotel in February 2008 for a short break and for anyone visiting Iceland for the first time it is the perfect place to stay. Firstly the hotel is located on the doorstep of the traditional, historical and prettiest part of Reykjavic which means that you can enjoy all the best that Reykjavic has to offer without having the stress of navigating around using taxis, cars or buses. You step out of the hotel into one of best areas for eating and shopping and this is a real bonus if you are less mobile and want to enjoy as much as possible without too much strain or if you want to see as much as possible during a short break.
Secondly the hotel has historic and traditional elements of its own. As it was being re-built a couple of years ago they discovered one of the oldest buildings ever built by man in Iceland. This has been sympathetically restored and intergrated into the fabric of the building and can be viewed from a glass window near the front of the hotel or by entrance next to the hotel for a small fee. As the hotel is newly built it has good clean reasonable sized rooms, clean facilities and pleasing public spaces. The modern facilities merge well with the traditional frontage of the building. The reception staff all speak good english and are very helpful too.
Breakfast is served in the hotel's dining room and is a buffet style comprising of all you would expect from this standard of hotel. The food was of a good quality and plentiful but was pretty similar all the time we stayed. this is not a complaint, just a comment. the dining room transforms into a restaurant at night. this was expensive but comparable to all eating out experiences in Reykjavik. The hotel also comprises of a bar/coffee lounge with soft sofas as well as the standard tables and chairs. This was a pleasant place to visit after a hard day of sight seeing.
Overall we were extremely pleased and relieved to find this hotel was of a good standard because we could find very little independent information about it before our visit . We hope you enjoy it too.
