Hotel Ritz Madrid is one of Madrid\\\'s most exclusive addresses. It offers first class service in a setting of warmth and comfort. Special care and attention are given to every detail in order to satisfy all client\\\'s needs. King Alfonso XIII wanted a luxury hotel to rival the Ritz in Paris - this six-story palace next to the Prado is the result. Presidents and politicians, successful businesspeople, well-heeled leisure travelers, and the stars sink into its soft carpets, handmade by the Spanish royal family's fabric manufacturers. Service is paramount, and, with a 250:167 ratio of staff to room numbers, each guest is treated to a personalized welcome in the circular, marble-pillared hall and high-ceilinged lobby.
Advantages: Many things to see, Great underground subway, Nightlife Disadvantages: Many "risky" places,

-Reina Sofia/El Prado (art museums)
-Parque Retiro/Parque Attraciones (1 is a nice park 2 is a nice amusement park)
-Zarzuela (typical spanish theatre act)
Madrid ranges from Modern to Medieval buildings and very expensive hotels.
Bullfighting is also amongst one of Spains and Madrids traditions, especially going to the arena and watching a live match... and lets not forget the beautiful TERMINAL 4 barajas... the architecture is simply amazing......

Advantages: An exciting city Disadvantages: can get hot in the summer
...Madrid is a great place for couples or friends on a short city break.
If you are looking at staying in Madrid you could do a lot worse than take a look at the Hotel Regina. The hotel is a 3 star establishment on Calle Alcala, which runs directly into the centre of the city at Puerto del Sol. In fact this hotel is little more than 300 yards from the centre of Madrid.
I stayed in a single room (though it had two single beds!) for around £40 per night in March 2001. For that I got the room, ensuite bath with over the bath shower, toilet and sink, cable tv including pay per view movies, cnn, eurosport and sky news, a radio, and an alarm clock.
A buffet breakfast was also included. I was able to choose from cereals, coffee and tea, orange juice, doughnuts, croissants, rolls with jams and butter, and a selection of meats.

Advantages: Lots to do, food, drink, accom is cheap, metro is great Disadvantages: Crime, few speak English/German/French,
...costs 145pts so the 10 ticket option is more sensible.
Car
I wouldn't advise driving in Madrid. It's slow, busy and the drivers are v.aggressive. Still, if you're gonna travel, then all the usual rental firms are at the airport.
Hotels
A good range, loads in the centre. If you're turning up on spec, head for Sol as there are loads of cheap n cheerful hostels there. We stayed in the Plaza d'ort, which we found on the internet. To get there, find O'connel St Irish pub and walk up the road from there. We payed 21000 pts for 2 single beds, en suite bathroom for 3 days, so about £80 for 2 ppl for 3 days.
There are of course larger, more luxurious hotels such as the Ritz and Savoy (!)
And of course Holiday Inn / Best Western etc.
Food
Loads of tapas bars, usually serving up seafood, potato salad, crisps, sausage / veal.
Usual fast food...
