...Diakofto lies on the north coast of the Pelelponnese, at the entrance to a spectacular gorge which operates a thrilling rack-railway system through the ravine to the ski resort of Kalavrita, although the train journey is impressive whatever the season as the train crosses tiny bridges and passes through numerous tunnels en route. Trains from Athens to Patras pass through Diakofto and The Chris Paul Hotel is an excellent base to explore the area. The hotel is only 50 metres from the railway station and offers 35 clean and spacious rooms, which have heating/air con, telephone & TV. It has a bright, modern reception, which leads into the breakfast room. There is also an outside eating area and, apart from breakfast, snacks and drinks are available. Advantages: Impressive site, spectacular location, museum well presented Disadvantages: modern village very touristy
...The modern village of Olympia is in sharp contrast to the adjacent Ancient site, but it is worth suffering the tourist trappings of the modern village to experience the peace and tranquility of the site itself.
Modern Olympia's main street is lined with hotels and tourist shops selling books, ceramics and T shirts. Advantages: My home for 5 years - I miss you Crete Disadvantages: Winters are not that nice

But I can tell you it was not easy for us to get everything sorted without any Greek!
The winters in Crete are just the same like the English ones, it is cold and it is raining a lot. So should you think about to stay for a longer...
