...either in english or in French. You can search for the 4 Funiculars / Elevator that there are in the city specially the Santa Justa Elevator placed downtown at "Baixa". It will cost you 1 BUC ticket up and another one down (that's 1,40€). But when at the top you can have a wonderfull sight from "Baixa" and the Tejo river, take a simple coffee (very good in Portugal)(we call it just "café" or "Bica") and with that you can seat and enjoy the view... you can go up from baixa to Praça dos Restauradores and take the funicular (locally called "Elevador") from Restauradores to Bairro Alto (that's "Elevador da Glória) at the top turn on right to garden of "São Pedro de Alcântara" and enjoy the view to "Castelo de São Jorge" and "Baixa" area. when the night comes you can have lots of fun at "Bairro Alto", restaurants and Bars are many and you may... ...not more than 3 tables. Choose the cathedral as start/final point so that you don't get lost in the alleyways.The Castelo de Sào Jorge sits enthroned over the Alfama. There is an indescribably beautiful view over Lisbon .It is also an ideal place for photos.The Miradouro de Santa Luzia, which offers a good view over the lower parts of Alfama and the River Tejo. Moreover, it has some of the typical Portuguese blue and white ceramics on the walls of the Santa Luzia church.If you decide to try the Lisbon or the Alfama nightlife star by going to a Restaurant(if your looking for an unexpensive meal try one of those small restaurants with only 3 tables,there you will find the cheaper option,and still a good meal) and have dinner normaly arround 8.30 pm and enjoy one or several portugese dishes,afterwards go to a pub (there are several arround... Advantages: Picturesque city full of character. Wonderful architecture.
Disadvantages: Traffic, street peddlers.

...(the name escapes me, sorry) and the wonderfull Castelo de São Jorge, yes a castle, with even finer views. It's quite a walk up the hill to see it, but well worth it. These three districts are the main areas that are easily walkable from the centre. Some other areas of note follow below, but you will have to do some extra travelling to get there. --Belém-- To the West lies Belém, the traditional home of the age of discovery, as this is from where the great vessels set sail. There is a lot to see in this area, but for that postcard photograph, make sure you check out the Torre de Belém. Though I didn't visit many places when I came here, I spent many hours just walking about, inspired by the fantastic architecture and images of past glory. --Sintra-- Sintra is a bit out of the city, but is well worth a visit.
