I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the HotelInternational on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights.
LOCATION:
The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal.
PRICE:
Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time ...
Advantages: Great hotel, great location? Disadvantages: Perhaps too big!
Last year in the Sunday supplements I read about the new Hilton Hotel that had just opened in Venice and they had comments on the wonderful views and the roof terrace.

I had read that it is a large hotel and thinking about Venice and the size it must be out of the main Venice tourist area, we had not seen any building work on that scale the year before.
The Hilton hotel is in the Giudecca area of Venice away from St. Mark's Square. We had to catch a water bus from San Zaccaria, over to Zitelle and then just wondered along until we arrived at the Hilton which is the other end of Giudecca Island.
They do say that Elton John has a house in this part of Venice ...
Advantages: Great location, comfortable, quiet, secure Disadvantages: Single bedroom a little basic
. I decided that the Campiello would still fit the bill anyway. I booked online, checking that both hotel and flights were available for our chosen dates before committing to either. The flights were by EasyJet from Bristol International to Venice Marco Polo. I had lost the details for the Campiello but a Google search brought up the Venere.com web site, on which booking our 3 nights at the Campiello was a breeze. I booked in August for our November trip to take advantage of EasyJet?s bargain basement prices at the time. Unlike a lot of airlines, their prices tend to rise the nearer you get to your departure date so early booking is advisable. Unfortunately, I received an email from EasyJet in September to say that our return flight had been cancelled. They offered the choice of a full refund or changing the return date at no extra cost. I ...
