We booked with Direct Holidays for The Simar hotel in Cala San Vicente, Majorca, one week half board at less than 250 GBP. When we arrived in the resort there was nothing there except a couple of small supermarkets, three hotels, a few shops and three very nice sandy beaches.
The Hotel Simar was very clean and the staff were helpful and polite and they spoke good English. Our allocated room was down several flights of steps with no lift so we asked if this could be changed. There was no problem and we were moved to a better room the following day, having asked at Reception as the Rep was not around.
The hotel has its own swimming pool, a rooftop solarium overlooking the sea, a bar, restaurant, sun terraces and quiet lounge areas, there is also internet access.
The food was served in a buffet and comprised of continental dishes as well as more traditional English dishes. There was a wide selection of food both at breakfast and dinner, as much as you could eat.
In the evening the entertainment was mainly music/singers with keyboards or guitar.
The beaches were very small but in secluded bays with lifeguards in attendance.
Cala San Vicente is a very small resort, it is ideal for couples of all ages but I think anyone with young children or teenagers would need more than it can offer here.
It is unsuitable for people with walking difficulties, as there are steps down to all the beaches, or a walk down a steep slope. Also, in the hotel there are several steps to negotiate and the lift does not go to all floors.
Having said that, if you want a peaceful, relaxing holiday away from the usual rowdy resorts then this might suit you well. I would certainly go again, but I like to relax away from the crowds when I am away. Hotel Simar at Cala San Vicente was great for this.
