know, I am a great believer in foreign languages and although I never expect everyone to speak English, you would think at a tourist office they would have people who weren’t just monolingual. I tried English. I tried German. Hell, I even tried French and Italian but to no avail. Eventually though (after about 15 mins) the 3 on the desk called for the 4th to come out and she could speak pidgin English so it was ok. Why she wasn’t out there serving to start with though is anyone’s guess.
V IS FOR VORONEZ
My hotel, a 4* affair with conference centre attached. One of the most famous hotels in Brno. Look out for an op coming your way this time tomorrow,
W IS FOR WHOLE AGAIN
Arrrggghhh. I needed some music whilst heading out to the Augustinian Monastery (which I never found) and as my batteries were dying, I ...
Advantages: Cheap for 4*, clean, modern, Ok faciities Disadvantages: Iffy food, full of aging business men
Brno is, well, lacking in standard hotels. They have a few grotty places but the rest are magnificent 4 or 5* affairs. Since it was nearly my birthday and I was feeling extravagant, I decided just to go for it and to lap up the luxury in the Hotel Voronez for 2 nights.
The hotel can be reached by tram (number 1 from the station going left for 5 stops) but I was lazy and decided a taxi was the way to go. I then asked if he spoke English and he kind of smirked and said something which I can only imagine to be the Czech equivalent of “As if!”. So back into German I went. I had with me a print out of the hotel’s website ...
Advantages: Central location, clean Disadvantages: Food, rooms
We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too.
Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly.
My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern.
I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower.
The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close.
The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated ...
